Well, at least 8 have looked at this, and no one has posted. Looks like some sort of cleaning kit, but I really don't have any idea what it could be. Once somebody else nails it, it will probably look familiar.

Whatever it is, it is pressure sensitive. Hinge in the front and not the back...that says either foot pedal or detonator to me...the rod could just be a hand extension or an attachment to extend the area of activation by some unsuspecting enemy. Or maybe I am way off, but it is hinged in the front near the wire feed.

*Also there is a hole, midway from front to back that appears to be the insertion point of a safety mechanism.

pressure switch with multiple uses. mines would be one, set guns another it could also be used as a trigger for foo gas

Well done to those who got it. Its a pressure switch for sabotage use.

The top presses down against two springs and at a certain weight, fires a pin that detonates whatever's been connected to the front. No electricity needed.

The removable adjustable spike would typically be used on a rail line. The base unit sits on the ground and the spike is adjusted right up against the steel rail.

Its a No.5, used throughout WW2 and to my knowledge into the 60s at least.

It is called a time pencil. A timed detonator for sabotage. Originally used in WW2 by special forces, SOE and OSS they were used long after he war.

You crushed the copper part. This broke a glass vial releasing acid which burned through a wire at a very consistent rate (little shake to make sure acid well distributed). Once burned through a spring would be released to detonate the cap and main charge. No batteries or fire.

Different colours signified different delays. This one is white and would give you two hours to make your escape!

Enough time to wait for the next bus
