Default Texas CHL Class questions

Hey All. Headed in this Thursday to take the class for my Texas CHL (CCW). THe place I am going to has a general outline of the class. Most of it is to be expected. Laws and regs regarding concealed carry. Shoot/don't shoot discussions.

There is a "course of fire" but it isn't described. It supposed to be 50 rounds. Anyone know what is involved? Distances, on hand/off hand, number of rounds at each station, supported/unsupported/hipshoot, etc...

Any info is appreciated.

The place I go to just has everyone shoot form 7yds. They used to have their course set up for all three distances, but decided that it was faster for the whole class just to shoot all 50rds form the 7yd mark. I recomend that you do not shoot a perfect score of 250.

?? There were 4 or 5 people in my class that shot perfect scores!. One guy with a .45 could have covered his group with a coffee cup. I shot a 248 because I flinched when a piece of hot brass hit my arm.

If you have to shoot a person, God forbid, your range instructor might be called as a witness if it should go to court. What's he gonna say when they ask him for your score? If you're that good a shoot, why did you put three bullets in his chest when you could have just shot him in the arm, or leg????

In the criminal case this is irrelavant. You shoot to stop the threat.

In the civil case that can be relavent. Your actions that immediately follow the shoot will go towards your intent. I.E. Diall 911, attempt first-aid, comply with LE when it arrives, etc...

Because there is a big difference between controlled range shooting and shooting in self defense under stress. As stated above we are trained to shoot center of mass until the threat is stopped, the way I've been trained for 40+ years. If my lawyer can't bring that into play I'll fire him.

Just a follow-up. I did okay. First round of 5 at 15 yards I tossed and I'm genuinely not sure why. The second five rounds went right back into the grouping.

I shot form 3, 5 and 10 yards (I think) and they didn't put a score just pass or fail on the shooting part for the reasons carver mentioned.

Officer: Why did you shoot him 7 times.
You: It was all the ammo I had.

Course of fire was:

It was 20 rounds at 3 yards. Then 20 rounds at 7 yards. Then 10 rounds at 15 yards.

Anything inside the 8 ring is a "hit". Each hit is worth 5 points for a max score of 250. A minimum of 175 (75%) is needed to pass.
