http://cbs13.com/local/tracy.911.calls.2.1502690.html
i heard tell this was in the offing a few months ago and tried to raise it in conversation elsewhere but was told to check my meds maybe i shoulda made a few bets but i heard it was gonna be $50 thereabouts , but $300!! i'm so sorry for you folks here the story.... ============================================== Tracy Residents Now Have To Pay For 911 Calls More Local News TRACY, Calif. (CBS13) ― Tracy residents will now have to pay every time they call 9-1-1 for a medical emergency. But there are a couple of options. Residents can pay a $48 voluntary fee for the year which allows them to call 9-1-1 as many times as necessary. Or, there's the option of not signing up for the annual fee. Instead, they will be charged $300 if they make a call for help. "A $300 fee and you don't even want to be thinking about that when somebody is in need of assistance," said Tracy resident Greg Bidlack. Residents will soon receive the form in the mail where they'll be able to make their selection. No date has been set for when the charges will go into effect ===================================================== my source tells me it will be August 1 sorry eh jack

Well, CA is broke! The folks that live there have voted down new higher taxes, so why not come up with a solution that gets into there pockets with an existing program? Not surprising for CA.

So the 911 fee that everyone pays on their cell or landline phones is for what? Does anyone else see this as a metaphor for government run healthcare?

So if somebody T-bones you at the intersection you had better hope you stay conscious long enough to dial 911 to get somebody to come drag you out of your flipped over car that is now leaking gas from a ruptured tank. The little old guy in the apartment across the street who would have been glad to now can't afford to and nobody else will want to get involved. Makes sense to me.

It just never ends does it?
"The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money." Margaret Thatcher "California Dreaming" has turned into California Nightmare - or as some call it "The People's Republic of California." The problem is that the entire country is moving toward the California model. Government is far too big, spends far too much, and hires too many people at entry level, in every state. But as usual California leads the nation. California is arguably the most liberal, big spending, big government state in the entire USA with New York fighting for the lead. Yet, after years of spending like there was no limit to taxpayer money, California is mired in a deep economic crisis and poised to turn into an economic armageddon. The reality is that the state of California is bankrupt. According to California's own governor, treasurer, and state legislature, in early 2009 the state had an expected budget deficit of at least $41.8 billion. -California leads the country in spending on government employees -California spends twice as much as the national average on education - with dismal results -California spends almost $200 million per year on free college educations for illegal immigrants - no that's not a typo -CA has the most draconian, anti-business rules and regulations in the nation -CA is heaven for trial lawyers and hell for small businesses, which could be why so many major employers have left the state -CA has the highest or second highest income tax rates in the country (again tied with NY) p. 110-111 The Conscience of a Libertarian by Wayne Allan Root This was out of a book I read. Really liked it. Highly suggest it. As far as what Root says in his book, the reality is that CA is broke and they need a way to drum up some cash. Crime rate is high especially in LA, so $300 per 911 call will make some quick cash for them if people call 911. Especially when they already have tight rules for guns. It's like building a car in a way that it can only be worked on at a dealership, you have all the tools, and you build the car so it's unreliable. It breaks. Then you charge highway robbery. In a way, you could call what they're doing monopoly. Make it so you rely on police, then charge out the @$$ to call the men with the guns. I apologize if I offended anyone because I know to some of you California is home. Last edited by hogger129; 02-22-2010 at 07:56 PM.. |

Sorry, but I can't seem to add anything to the prior posts. Ya'll pretty much covered the insanity of the whole idea.

I can remember before 911 calls, everyone just had the numbers of the local fire/ambulance/police departments by the phone. A tad more complicated, and slower response time, but there you go for a possible solution?
