Here's some Pistol shootin' advice for those who might need it (like me).
Try to print them out for reading clarity. If you can't read it clearly enough, PM your snail-mail address and I'll burn some copies and mail them to any of y'all... ![]()

Thanks for posting that SG.
At the 3-gun match this weekend, when shooting the rifle on the 200 yard stage, I had to stop and think about the breathing and squeezing thing. Shoot from one position, then had to run up to the next position, and breathing was making the barrel move around all over the place. Had to slow down, take a breath, and then squeeze. Works every time. The squeeze is OK for bullzeye, or precision shooting, but when shooting competition handgun, there is no time to squeeze, when you are firing off 6-8 rounds in a couple of seconds.

I'm always happy for extra tips (I don't want to slight the previous posts, they are excellent indeed) if you've got any, Guns...

Do you have any tips on controlling a short-barreled semi-auto with a DA only trigger? I just acquired a Kahr K9. It feels like a 7-inch long handgun with 12 inches of trigger pull! I am generally pretty good with a Gov’t Model or a revolver, but I have to really concentrate when shooting the Kahr to put the bullets through the center of the target. When I try to speed up my shooting, my groups appear at the 6 or 7 o’clock position on the target – probably because I am squeezing the grip instead of just pulling the trigger. Is there some kind of practice technique to improve my shooting with this pistol?

TV Shooting works well - sit in front of the TV and dry fire at it. You may want to try this with a dime balanced on the front site - and try not to drop it. Other similar techniques - post a Ace playing card on the wall, dry fire at it and concentrate on keeping the site on the pip - not the whole card - the pip. The key is to figure out the proper balance of grip strength and trigger manipulation - dry fire practice with a purpose is great for this.
Oh, and squeeze a tennis ball any time you are on the phone - increased grip strength will always help. |
