Default Python stocks/grips

I saw a Python for sale with the grips smooth where most have checkering and the smooth part was a much lighter color. Are these original or has the checkering been sanded down and refinished? Actually they were quite pretty in the two tone, but if not original how does it effect the price. Its priced as in 99% condition with no mention of the grips.

Pythons came with either big honkin' checkered wood grips with a gold Colt emblem, or with Pachmyars with a gold Colt emblem. If they have smooth wood grips, the grips have been replaced or altered.

Hmmm. I believe the little Pythons - the 2 1/2" - came with smaller checkered wood grips with a gold Colt emblem. But they were still checkered, not smooth, and not two-tone.

Early Pythons came with smaller but still big, all checkered grips. Narrow on the 2-1/2s. Later ones are bigger around the sideplate, and have smooth surfaces in the upper part, but they are still about 85% checkered. I'm not getting into the rubber ones.

So my take is: smooth grips are aftermarket.

But this thread is worthless without pics
