Capt. Phil Harris of TV's 'Deadliest Catch' dies after stroke ![]() February 10, 2010 10:30 a.m. EST (CNN) -- Capt. Phil Harris of the Discovery Channel show "The Deadliest Catch" died Tuesday of complications from a stroke suffered late last month. He was 53. Harris, the tattooed and gruff captain of the Cornelia Marie, was a fan favorite in the reality show about crab fishing off Alaska. "Discovery mourns the loss of dear friend and colleague Captain Phil Harris. He was more than someone on our television screen. Phil was a devoted father and loyal friend to all who knew him," a statement from the network said. "We will miss his straightforward honesty, wicked sense of humor and enormous heart." Harris suffered a massive stroke on January 29 while his crew offloaded crab at St. Paul Island, Alaska. _______________________________ He was the best of the bunch in my opinion. Prayers to the family. Rest In Peace Cap. .

That's too bad.
Unfortunately, it doesn't really suprise me though. This guy seemed to be on his last leg for quite a while. I'm sure he will be missed by many. Celebrate his time on Earth. He got to live his life the way he wanted. How many of us can say that? |

Frankly, the 4 packs a day, total sleep deprivation and constant fueling with Red Bull is tough on people.
After he had all of the heart, blood clot issues over the last couple of seasons, I'm surprised that he lasted this long. He seemed like a good Dad to his two boys who worked for him. RIP Cap''n.

Yes....a heavy smoker, bad diet and constand coffee drinking always made me think this guy was headed for health issues. He semed like a good person, sad to see him gone. R.I.P.

Like the show he did, and he was always the best. RIP

"...and that's why lions eat their young..."
Bummed me out when I saw the title...I liked him a lot. I hope the boys are ok.

Walked the walk.
Can't say anything better about a fellow. (insert 'sad' icon, here. . . . ) His boys have got some boots to fill.
