Default DOONESBURY

I was shocked with this morning's (Sunday) newspaper cartoon. Normally, Trudeau's bend is far left and was slamming President Bush every weekend. I don't recall him being ever anti- Democratic President.

He really lays it into The Obama Regime this morning.

I'm not really doubting you Tim, but I'll believe it when I see it.

I'm heading for the paper now.

EDIT:

That's a shock.

Uh..

I read it as:

"To all the people saying Obama is a socialist: this is what the Nazis did (atrocities) and this is what Obama does (nothing more evil than speeches). Golly look how kind and benevolent Obama is."

He's basically trying to show that Obama is nothing like Hitler. At worst, the comic merely points out that all Obama does is make speeches.

I see it a little different. I look at the two first pics and start to think, then look at the 3rd. Hitler did a lot of speeches too, to win people over and get HIS idea across.

I was going to argue with your point, but now that I look at it again, I think you are somewhat correct.

I've been thinking it over for the last hour and you may be right. Well, let's see what next Sunday brings...

I think KellyTTE is right....it's a back-door slam at those of us who are voicing what we believe are valid comparisons and concerns.

Hitler started with speeches. He was not able to use open force from the beginning.
This is the way I see it, maybe not what artist meant. If his "speeches" don't work(or maybe if they
do work), will he proceed to next steps.

Hitler's speeches worked and look at all the power he received. Germany gave him all the power he
needed to use all the force he wanted.

So Hitler came into power in 1933. Hobama came into power in 2009.
How long did Hitler just give speeches? Remember, many Germans loved him. When did Hitler's real agendas surface. I think truedeau may be trying to show the sheep the real dangers that are coming if this trash administration remains in power. My guess is that next week we will see more of hobama's actions here in the funny papers.

If you take the quality of an artist to lie in obtaining the precise reaction that you wish to get from people, he is either very talented or very out of touch. Whichever the case may be, I don't expect people who haven't already noticed the parallels to sit down and think on it too much. Still, even if it wasn't meant to be a warning, it's obviously doing just that, if only for those who already see those parallels.

--Unfortunately I think it's a liberal slam with the out of touch theory

It makes more sense to me now. My paper cut the first two frames off so it changes the way the comic reads. The jury is still out on this as far as I'm concerned. I'll have to see the nest few strips to really see where he is heading.

For the last week he has been putting down elderly Obamacare protesters.
