ss# 76841 has 5 1/2" barrel
has some crown markings on the cylinder. Any help would be great this is for my father who is not really wanting to sell the gun just wanting information on the gun as the crown markings have confused several people. Also both ss# match on the gun and the colt horse to the upper left and below the hammer is still visible.

Maybe you could post some pics of both sides of the gun and maybe some pics of the markings?

I believe it is a U.S. Army Model 1909, (a military variation of the Colt New Service), but we need better pictures of the butt markings and the proof marks; the presence of any proof marks (other than the tiny Colt VP) indicates the gun was owned or sold at some time in a foreign country.
