For me, this ranges from less than 350 (.38) for my .357 revolver, to currently over 1100 for my .22 pistol.
I buy in bulk by mail, to avoid the hassle of driving all over three counties to find what I want in the stores. When I find a cartridge that works well for me, I buy a bunch (I bought a whole case of .22 at one time). Discounts increase with quantity, and shipping is cheaper at certain quantities, and I pay no tax on it. By the way, does anyone here wanna buy some .22 Short? They don't fly straight out of my new rifle.

.338 only about 150 rounds,22-250 well a lot more,22 long rifle, enough to shoot Grouse till I die,25-06 enough for the wife to never have to reload another round,12 gauge more than enough and handgun calibers more than I will advertise . catfish |

Not nearly enough but we have limited space for storage.

Could someone state the law on ownership limits so I can say a number below the limit?

I only keep ammo when I'm nearing range time. Right now, I have 250rnds of .22lr HV and 100rnds of .380 (50rnds of Remington and 50rnds of American Eagle). I usually only carry FMJ ammo. Next pay period, I'm getting a case (400 rnds) of 7.62x54r ammo.

On hand means where, exactly?
On the bikes, seldom more than 50 rds of any single caliber. In the truck, well, a little more, for several more calibers; should the SHTF, it would be my 'bug out ' vehicle, and, depending on the situation and timeframe, might gain a lot of weight in a very short time, from ammo, and arms. The toolbox in the truck would support me, in clothing, tools, arms and ammo, for six months, if necessary, but then, my needs are simple. In fixed locations, remote from my residence, I could likely access more ammo, in an hour or two, than I would need for a lifetime; all in serious caliber, sealed battlepack format; like somebody said, volume reduces the price, as does situational awareness, sometimes. When I hear of a Gun shop, in financial distress, I'll make it a point to visit, and if, perhaps, the owner is long on good .308 ammo, and short on cash, an extremely favorable price can be reached, to mutual benefit- he has the cash to meet next week's bills, and I have another stash of ammo. Same deal, on a Sunday afternoon, at a gun show; an ammo dealer, having driven 5 or 600 miles to a slow show, and unloaded 10,000 pounds of ammo to set up, may not wish to load all or most of it up, again, to drive home! Make him an offer you both can live with, on ALL his 'case lot' ammo, in whatever caliber floats your boat, and have cash. I bought 13 cases of .308 (7.62X51 NATO) Hirtenberger Ball, for $1450, US, in Houston, a few years ago, sold six cases, near the end of the show, for $1050, total, to other exhibitors, so arrived home with seven cases of ammo that shoots as good as Lake City Match, for $400, in real money, sonewhere around 57 bucks a case! Too cheap to pass up!!! I store most of it away from my residence, in secure storage areas, with relatively 24/7 access, as a convenience to me, and a courtesy, to my neighbors. Rimfire ammo is the exception; the lube gets hard, fractures and falls off, goes 'stale' in a couple of years; I'm testing, and buying now, a bit less than what I will shoot this season, since I 'overbought', last year. In case lots, of course. For the 'Stinger' kind of round, where accuracy is not the primary emphasis, by all means, buy, in quantity, when available on the cheap; the preceding was about 'Match Quality' target ammo. How much, total, 'on hand' (a term as yet undefined) ? More than a large police department, but less than a small Army, I Guess. Of course, you must remember, I have been without adult supervision for 16 years.

I've had local leos say when trouble starts, they're dropping by my house before bugging out.
Several deputies know of what I have and yet I'm not feared by local leos. We're all of a like mind here in my AO.

Average several hundred rounds for .22, .357, .38 Special, 9mm, .45 Colt, .45ACP, 105 Howitzer, 16" Battle Ship, Cruise Missles, et cetera, plus quality Chinese firecrackers and Tiwanese squirt guns.
Plus 7 pounds of copper coated BB's for my Daisy Squirrel Atenuator with laser sights that show the bushy tailed fence runners where to plant the peanuts, and where to not stand still, inviting me to place rounds across their bows (I just scare them, not hit them). "the maximum amount that is allowed by law is 2,000 rounds of loaded Ammo, there is no limit to reloading components" How true that is I am not sure but to be safe I have more then enough of each Caliber weapon to have a good bit of loaded ammo on hand ![]()

I looked at the Ohio Revised Code and did a search for "ammunition," and found nothing about how much you can have here.
