32acp = 7.65 browning = 32 automatic ?
i have a chance to pickup a set of browning dies cheap.. they are labeled 32 automatic / 7.65 browning.. ( 3 die set in a red canister type ). i've always thought 7.65 browning and 32acp were equal.. havn't really heard the 32 automatic dubbing. my right in my thinking?

32 auto is the same as 32 acp. Auto is just a short way to say acp or Automatic Colt Pistol

As far as I know ACP (automatic colt pistol) is just short hand for automatic. Should be the same thing.

And if the gun is old enough, the caliber marking on it will be "32 rimless smokeless".
Just adding to the confusion. ![]()

Sounds like a lee die set, they are in a red cannister and they are marked in the manner you mentioned. Should be $20 or so used.

The only dumb question is the one not asked.

There was a thread a month or so back about the French MAB Model D automatic pistol in 32 Automatic (which, BTW, the French refer to as 7.65mm Court, or Short, because their army used a 7.65mm Long for a while). A fellow who said he worked at the MAB factory said they made the firing chambers of pistols intended for export to the US a slightly difference dimension than the ones intended for use in Europe. I'll add a link to the thread to this post if I can find it. I think the difference must be extremely small, and may pre-date the adoption of international cartridge standards.
Here it is - it is the post by "Dullahan": http://www.thefirearmsforum.com/showthread.php?t=104810 I very much doubt what he is talking about is big enough to make a difference in loading dies. Last edited by Lanrezac; 07-06-2012 at 05:32 PM.. |
