We have a vacuum seal contraption (Seal a Meal, I think) that I tried a few years ago. I vacuum sealed my Luger and Broomhandle Mauser after oiling them. The seal didn't hold but a couple of days. I tried a second and a third time before giving up the idea. I hope these ziplocs work for you, if they do let us know and I might try again!!

I have considered going the vacuum-bag route, but with Bore Store cases selling for about $10 each I use them instead. I've never had a problem with any handgun stored in a Bore Store, and they can be opened and resealed at any time.

One of the problems with using food-grade plastic vacuum bags to store guns is that if any oils or cleaning solvents in or on the guns will quickly degrade the thin plastic bags and air leaks will happen. You would need a plastic bag that is impervious to petroleum products.
