Why I don't like Ted N:
(from Wik)

An interviewer from the British newspaper The Independent questioned Nugent about a 1977 interview in High Times magazine in which Nugent allegedly detailed elaborate steps taken to avoid the Vietnam draft.[32]

"I got 30 days' notice of the physical," Nugent told them. "I ceased cleansing my body. Two weeks before the test I stopped eating food with nutritional value. A week before, I stopped going to the bathroom. I did it in my pants. My pants got crusted up."

I googled Ted the draft dodger and I came across this, although I think it is skewed a little toward Democrats being more patriotic. http://www.awolbush.com/whoserved.html

Those statistics citing so many liberal democrats that served in the military and so many republicans who did not are truly troubling and embarrasing. After thinking about it a bit I believe I can offer some explanation.

One would get the impression from that presentation of those stats that those patriotic Americans who defend this country are liberal, while those who avoid serving are republican.

Hogwash. That's why 75% of the military votes republican. Look at this forum. We have many conservatives on this forum who are vets. In fact the majority of vets here are conservative. So let's use the same type of irrational logic used by that web site and draw the conclusion that most who serve are conservative. In this case that logic is irrational because this forums participants are drawn together by our interest in firearms, so naturally we tend to be more conservative as a group.

The question is, why have not more conservative veterans run for office? Or better yet, why have not more conservative veterans been elected to office.
You see it's not just a matter of running, you have to win. When we have an electorate that puts a man like Barack Obama in office is it any wonder a conservative veteran who campaigns on conservative patriotic principles wont be elected?

Why not ask the question "How many liberal democrats who are veterans campaigned for office in support of those fighting our wars?? I don't mean just paying lip service. How many have truly supported the troops and the war in which they are engaged?

Jack Murtha served. He's a decorated Marine. Is he a patriot when he accuses his own Marines of cold blooded murder? Or is he a piece of scum that has dishonored himself and disgraced the uniform which he wore?

John Kerry served. Was he a patriot when he told lies about what he saw and did in Vietnam in sworn testimony before congress? Or was he someone with political ambitions that put in just enough time to fill out his resume and embellish his record with fraudulent claims of his own bravery?

I will not be put in the position of being an apologist for those republicans who did not serve. I don't know why Newt Gingrich and other republicans did not serve. I truly wish we had more conservative veterans serving in congress. I will tell you this much...the ranks of those who ran away from Vietnam service by and large were liberal democrats or socialists and those who did serve are far more conservative than the average American.

As to Nugent, he has stated that he exagerated the story of how he avoided the draft and that HE FEELS ASHAMED OF THE FACT THAT HE DID SO. So does that fact make him incapable of maturing...of finally seeing the light?
When it comes to evaluating the rightness or wrongness of a position one takes it is illogical to diminish that position by the persons actions in unrelated matters. The thing must be judged by it's inherent truth. In this case Ted Nugent is right on the money.

Johnny..... can one not be forgiven past sins, once one sees the light?

None of us are perfect, and it appears we are busy attacking or at least smudging those in our own ranks instead of joining together to attack our common enemy, the gun grabbers. There are some here who I absolutely, 100% disagree with regarding religion, abortion, etc. Does that mean I can't put that difference aside to pursue our common goal of defeating the anti gun nuts?

For me it doesn't. I like having Uncle Ted's voice in the conversation, and I don't hear the libs talking about Ted's lack of service, but rather those of us supposedly on the same side.

Ted is just a guy that plays a hot guitar and happens to be pro gun & pro hunting. I feel blessed that I'm one of his deer killin and grillin blood brothers!

I'm just saying......

People do change/mature over time. When I got out of high school, I wanted nothing to to do with going into the military, guns were for cops and soldiers. long live rock!!

now my biggest regret is NOT serving in the military, WOW has my opinion on the 2nd ammendment changed, and music aint so important, in fact now if I do listen , Id rather it be country or even classical. I still listen to rock, but its just there.

Point is we change and mature, some for the better, some not so.

He was young once and made mistakes. He is making up for it big time! His current logic is fantastic and hard to argue against. Go Uncle Ted!

Ted Nugent rocks -
And his politics are right on now -

Did he mature?
It would seem so.

Do we judge him by what he WAS or by what he IS?

Hey, I remember arguing with my dad during the JFK race.
I thought he would make a GREAT president.
He got elected.
I joined the service.
And I learned what a grandstanding piece of scum he really was during the Cuban Missile Crisis, when he came VERY close to starting WWIII just so he could play the hero AFTER things got very hot, instead of keeping out of it and letting us settle it BEFORE things got hot.

I was a liberal.
I matured quickly when I was mugged by reality.

I did and said many things in my youth that is totally opposite of who I am today. In 1973 I had a peace sign hanging from the rear view mirror of my VW Bug and hair half way down my back. I was 18, young and dumb. I signed up for the Marines the next year.

Like I mentioned to another forum member, there's no issue with one arriving late at the 'party', but it kinda grinds to have one acting as though they helped hang the decorations, after having done so.

This is so true!

Well.....touchy stuff....about being younger..then older...?

So much to be said for thinking or beliefs when young , then gainin gor experiencing wisdom......etc......I suppose...

I personnaly have only one issue against the rocker/hunter....I see him on sport channel often.....he is a "constable reserve " and like to ride and assist other officers..I have observed....he obviouls enjoys his sports and wants others to share in them as well....

I also...had ideals when younger... I am not now , nor never was perfect or imagined I was....

But with all my faults ( numerous..and apparently endless...)..of the things I have had to face....one thing I can stand up for ....I have never been a coward , per any action and fight , as to my country , my comrades , my family.

I have considered myself foremost in liberal or humane means, regarding if an individual simply did not want to serve when needed , per fear, religion , or whatever. Leave them home...( they do now , more than then ) , we didnt need anyone who didnt want to be along side , and
would have been dangerous for all , were they forced to be.

But to dodge, not a genuine verified medical , religious , mental , etc plea for exception.....but to dodge , cowardice.

I was reminded recently that of all persons during that period ,persons of celebrity and wealth and status , I mean to say , the only , only one who actually suffered or lossed it all....time / money / title / public opinion , was Cashus Clay / M. Ali...I happen to still respect him for that

But a coward...there were times I couldnt keep a trembling cigrette in my mouth, while picking stuff from me...and that stuff didnt come from cowards.....

I want all herein to have and cherish their T Nugent opinions, and best to you.

You sure have mine.

Well, as somebody said, we're all entitled to our opinion. Mine is he's a coward and I don't want anything to do with him. I'm a Vietnam Vet and some of my friends names are on the wall.
