Cooling sprue. - The Firearms Forum

When the sprue cools what should it look like? Should it look shiny or what? Or does it not matter at all.

It should look frosted and you will see molten metal being sucked into the bullet cavity while it cools. It has to do this to give your bullet a good sharp base.

Thanks Plano I was getting that same result for nearly all of my casts. I noticed that the sprue did have a small dent in it above the sprue hole. And I think I have a better idea of what a frosted look will be like because that is the way it looked when it (the sprue) cooled on top.
