This is not a complaint about anything, but I posted it here because I did not know where else would be appropriate.

As some of you may know by now, I enjoy a spirited, intelligent exchange of ideas and believes. I find it entertaining, and even at times educational. However, I find the use of many labels we use can be misleading and even erroneous.
On another board, while defending the 1st and 5th Amendments to the Constitution, I was referred to as a “liberal socialist”.
On a different thread on the same board, while defending the 2nd Amendment, I was referred to as a “conservative fascist”.
Here locally, I know of many “Democrats” who own firearms. I also know some “Republicans” who support stronger gun control laws.
A couple of points to ponder;
1. In today’s Russia, the “liberals” are those striving to develop a democracy while the “conservatives” are the old hard-line Communists.
2. Our Founding Fathers, (who wrote the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence) and gave birth to this nation, were “liberals”. The supporters of the Crown were the conservatives. A point of fact; the Constitution itself is an extremely liberal document.

A person can be a liberal capitalist, or a conservative socialist, a liberal socialist or a conservative capitalist, or any and all points in between. These labels are too ambiguous to correctly portray the majority of American today. I feel they are overused and abused. I am not only referring to this board. I am referring to our society as a whole.

If I believe in the Constitution, in it’s entirety, and feel it must apply to everyone, does that make me a conservative liberal or a liberal conservative?

Just a point to consider.

N. Hawk-
You raise neat questions, but how relevent?

History shifts and rolls. Names change to protect the guilty.

The questions should be:
Are they Constitutionalists or anti-Constiitutionalists?
Are they Americans or Hyphenated-americans?

We are now so beset by slime-groups, oozzzing out of our woodwork,
like HCI, PETA, ACLU, NDC, ATA, etc., including hired help (elected officials),
who have PC off-shore agendas, designed to gut this nation of our
history and traditions!

These are the actual "special interest" groups who consider themselves
so 'special ', that 'Americans' must be subdued.

Their genius is in selecting 'touchy-feely' issues which will appeal to the idiot
class, being mass-produced by our current federal "education" system.
This idiot class is now incapable of either reading between the lines or seeing
beyond the ends of their noses. They are bought and sold by bigMedia
and the pandering of Socialist Democrat Candidates.

The sources of this idiot class are the Teaching Institutions of the east coast
(not to slight CA's really idiot class!), who are the whimpering
loosers of the cold war.
Their mad dance of American destruction is characterized by
their cries of despair and pain, as their evoluted uteri drag in the dirt.

nighthawkish - don't feel too bad about being called a liberal, it can't be any worse than me being alled a feminazi (which I've yet to figure out how they came up with that).

As for labeling people - it doesn't work. I know you won't fit in that nice little pidgeon hole somebody has decided that is you and nor will anyone else that's on the boards or in real life. And for each label someone tries to paste on you, that's one more label they've actually given themselves.

I hope to see more spirited debates and words from you in the future. I might not agree with all you say but outside of arguing my point I'll do my best to not label you or anyone else (okay can I at least label the guys that think women should be in the kitchen barefoot and pregnant???).

Well, I think Janet Reno is a perfect description of a
feminazi.

Tac, actually I think Janet Reno is far scarier than a femi-nazi could ever be.

GG - you are probably right about where it was first coined.

ZigZag - rock on!

IMO,
I find it interesting that a post is made addressing categorizing individuals/groups and Waldo adds the idiot class.

Sure it's easier to find fault and place blame, than to be part of the solution.

That's the problem with ' those' that think they have the solution. They think they're right and lend a deaf ear to to other antidotes.

It's time for 'out of the box' thinking, and find solutions.

Zigzg,
I defend my naming of the idiot class.
They are real, they are there. Actually, I will back down on "idiot"- they are not dumb.
They think they have found your "solutions". They, for example, feel that gun control will
end crime. I guess I overstated the case for 'idiot', simply for their lack of including
'criminals' in their equation/thinking.

Some of us should be put back in our boxes.

This thread REALLY made my head hurt. Labels always seem to be open to interpretation and as stated: sometimes the meaning can change or be misconstrued.

This'll probably be hard to pigeon hole, too.

Dear Ma and Pa:

I'm in the Army Now!!
Am well. Hope you are. Tell Brother Walt and Brother Elmer the
Army beats working for Old Man Minch a mile. Tell them to join up
quick before maybe all the places are filled.

I was restless at first because you got to stay in bed till
nearly 6 a.m.! But am getting so I like to sleep late. Tell Walt
and Elmer all you do before breakfast is smooth your cot and shine
some things -- no milkin', no hogs to slop, feed to pitch, mash
to mix, wood to split, fire to lay.
Practically nothing. You got to shave, but it is not bad
in warm water.

Breakfast is strong on trimmings like fruit juice, cereal, eggs,
bacon, etc., but kind of weak on chops, potatoes, beef, ham steak,
fried eggplant, pie and regular food. But tell Walt and Elmer you can
always sit between two city boys that live on coffee.
Their food plus yours holds you till noon, when you get fed, again.
Sometimes we get corn bread, but it ain't too good.
They dump all their bacon fat! Seen 'em make mashed taters, once;
you just add water to some stuff. They ain't too good, either.
Looks like it would be good for repapering the outhouse.

We got all these guys that do all the cookin'; Ma should come
down here. They could maybe learn some things.

It's no wonder these city boys can't walk much. We go on
"route marches," which, the Sgt. says, are long walks to harden us.
If he thinks so, it is not my place to tell him different.
A "route march" is about as far as to our mailbox at home.
Then the city guys all get sore feet and we ride back in trucks.
The country is nice, but awful flat.

I reckon since we don't do no work, we get callousthentics.
Don't know where we are supposed to get callouses, mine are beginning
to wear off.

The Sgt. is like a schoolteacher. He nags some, mostly about
girly stuff, like did you make your bed good and shine your shoes.
The Capt. is like the school board. Cols. and Gens. just ride around
and frown. They don't bother you none. One asked me if I knew my
cereal number. We get cereal a lot; not much grits.
Milk comes in these little boxes; must be a lot harder to fill
than a pail! Real clean, tho! No bugs, mud or cow ****!

This next will kill Walt and Elmer with laughing.
I keep getting medals for shooting. I don't know why. The bull's-eye
is near as big as a chipmunk and it don't move; it allus at the
same range, too. And it ain't shooting back at you, like
the Higsett boys at home. All you got to do is lie there all
comfortable and hit it.

You don't even load your own cartridges.
They come in boxes. And they are free! Got me a real nice gun, too!
May get rusty shootin' it tho, it has this clicker thing on the
hind sight- no more holding up or down. I'm supposed to use the
wind knob, but I don't.

Be sure to tell Walt and Elmer to hurry and join before other
fellows get wind of this setup and come stampeding in.

Your loving son,
Bubba Larry

P.S. Speaking of shooting, enclosed is $200 for barn roof and
ma's teeth.

Don't despair, we remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants, and murderers, and for a time they can seem invincible, but in the end they always fall. Think of it.....always.
