Member Posts: 125 (1/8/03 1:04:59 am) Reply greedy b*startd laws -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- today i found out that in some states (many states) there is a law pushed through by funeral homes saying that a majority of a deceased's survivors have to be physically present to sign off on a cremation unless it is specifally written into the deceased's will. it doesn't matter if the deceased already payed for a cremation and signed for it, etc. this way, the funeral home can sell you a plot and casket, etc, etc, etc. (i'm sure we all understand that i'm not inclined to deal with involving my evil brother and getting his permission and signature from him on his ship) as it turned out, the funeral director from Florida who mom prepaid for the cremation to somehow agreed to issue an order for the cremation and the death certificate will now come from another state. lesson of the day: if you want to be cremated, write it in your will. ugh. i'm so thankful this latest hurdle has been overcome and we all can try to get on with our lives.
