Not a good idea from the aspect of spent primers burying themselves into the carpet, only to found the next time you decide to go barefoot across the room.
It's much easier to clean up and maintain a floor when it's hardwood or solid surface. At a minimum, I would put one of those large plastic mats down in the area around your bench.
Static discharge is much more of a hazard with black powder, but it can be a hazard with alot of different things. Just depends on the static charge and the volatility of the subject matter.
