Ok I just started reloading and got a box of equipment. Does anyone know what this thing is for? It may not even be for reloading

Yep, the shaft is removable and it has a spring on the end that sits in the left portion of the hollow tube that is attached to the shaft. If looks like if you put powder in the vertical portion the shaft would pick it up as it is turned by the knurled knob and the spring would act like an auger and move the powder a small portion at a time to the end of the horizontal shaft.

If I had known this, I would have kept and sold you guys all my old Herter crap! Except for his reloading manual, I kept that around for the laughs reading the cartridge history's and his opinions.

I started on all Herter equipment, otherwise I had to drive 30 miles(to Plainfield,In.) one way just to find a shop, and they didn't 'deal' on anything. Got it all mail order, back in the good ol days when one could. |

Nice little piece of vintage equip. there. Wouldn't mind having one myself for display.
(Aside from the shape/design, the single grain of powder left in it is kind of a giveaway. ) |
