Camo trucks and cars - The Firearms Forum

This might just be a Missouri thing but, hunting seasons are near and I've started to see the old trucks and cars with camo paint jobs driving around town. It's not too unusual to see the trucks, but I've seen two Ford LTD's and one Dodge in home made camo. I don't know where they keep them the rest of the year, you don't see them in summer, but they are out now.
Anyone want to admit to being the proud owner of one of these beauties? Better yet, got any pics to show off?

Not me but I once saw a Dodge van with another half van on top and it was covered with green indoor/outdoor carpet. What a sight.

I don't own one but there are few of those around here. What doesn't make sense is that they are inner city vehicles, I don't think these things have ever seen a dirt road, much less off road.

I always wanted to ask "What is the point of the camo paint job if it makes your car MORE visiable?"

we got the same thing in ny. i would love to camo my truck, but they have this film like window tint that comes in huge rolls that will do a whole truck.

A buddy of mine has a camoed Ford Festiva, of all things, as if they were too easy to spot to begin with, and drives it 52 miles one way everyday to work.

Oh, I don't know. I've got an old Suburban (1990) K1500 that's not only seen a dirt road (lots) but also been off-road on the back trails of deer camp.

It ain't camo, though.

My brother-in-law ( I know it's a miracle, but I really like him), has been in the car business all his life, and say's trade in value on a camo'ed vehicle will be at the bottom rung no matter the mileage and condition. The cost of professional re-painting would be prohibitive on most vehicles to try to recoup trade-in value. Something to think about.

I never did understand why someone would design the outside of their vehicle in all camo.....and then put big chrome wheels on it.

Maybe if they covered all the metal on the vehicle with little tiny mirrors they could hide in any terrain and the chrome wheels wouldn't stand out so much????

Kind of reminds me of the big status symbol several years back with monster Mudding four wheel drive pick ups. Front and rear stainless steel bumpers, four foot high tires that cost what a new semi-automatic handgun went for (each!). Roll bars, you name it. I'll bet not one in twenty ever left a paved road.

Yep, they spend twenty thousand dollars to raise it up and trick it out and it never sees dirt. Now that just makes a lot of sense.

Does it make sence to haul a 4X8 ft. load of "air" with a truck that gets 10MPG?

Us folks out here in dirt road america are always amazed at all the "city trucks" roaming around with not a scratch in the box after years of wasting gas hauling all that air around. Maybe some day they will figure out just how expensive this really is.

Please don't flame me all you truck lovers, just my observation. Yes I have one to for work, ( I am a farmer after all) and there is usually something in the bed at all times.

I guess I am really a car lover at heart. Trucks are for those who really need one to "haul" something they need for work. Other wise I drive a car for the gas milage. Trucks with wings and hood scoops are an oxymoron.... if you want to Really go Fast, a car will kick a trucks arse!

No no I don't.

A HMMWV is so weak in horsepower it accelerates like it's being really pulled by one horse...can sit in the motorpool over the weekend and blow a CV joint...overheat just a little bit one time and the head gasket craps...one tiny problem in the wire harness and the whole system gets gremlins that will NEVER be fixed...the M1114 up-armors have the same suspension as the lightweight thin-skin M998 so it handles like a truck being pushed by that lone horse instead of pulled...the ergonomics of the truck were drawn up by a guy who must have never seen an automobile before except in Flintstone cartoons...visibility out the windows are so bad you need a ground-guide behind you to back up if you want to avoid damaging any government property in order to park...forget about using the side mirror while driving...........I'll stick with Ford; they at least have the integrity to circle the problem
