Looks like a mod. 1905. But I haven't seen one with these grips before. Small rounded hard rubber "black", diamond around the screw, S&W logo at the top.
Ser. # 129746 is on the butt, bottom of the barrel, and on the cyl. with 1541 inside the yoke where mod. # should be. The right side of barrel say's, Smith & Wesson Springfield, Mass. U.S. Pat's. March 2?. 94. May. 01.95. Aug. 4.96 Dec. 22. 96. Oct. 8. 01. Dec. 1?. 01. Feb. 8. 0? On the left side says. 38. S.&W. SPECIAL CTG Four screws on the right side and the "S&W Trade Mark", one screw in front of trigger guard and one on front side of butt. It's old and in poor cond. but my wife likes it because of the small grips. Action is good, smooth and tight. Light load wad cutters makt it fun. Does anyone know the Mod. and year it was made? Thanx, Steve I was trying to include a photo but haven't been able to, I don't have a URL.

Johnston.
For $30.00 Smith & Wesson will give you a great deal of information on your revolver. Mr Jinks will tell you when it was manufactured and where it was shipped. Just go to the Smith & Wesson Web page and click on History question and print off the form, fill it out with a photo of the revovler and mail it to them. they will usely return the History within two or three weeks. |

Sorry, been gone for a while, so I just saw this one.
Johnston3407.....your Smitty is what's known as a .38 Military and Police Model 1905, 2nd Change. This model was made in both square & round butt configuration According to the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wession, Serial #129746 was manufactured between 1906 and 1909.....probably between '08 and '09. And, just in case you're wondering, Blue Book value is: 80% - $200 70% - $175 60% - $155 50% - $135 40% - $115 30% - $100 20% - $90 10% - $80 |
