Default Need help ID ing this Colt Revolver

I am trying to help a friend ID his revolver. Colt medium to large frame, dark blued (about 75%) 4 inch barrel, target sights (adj. rear) six shot cylinder target grips with thumb platform appear to be walnut? three digit serial number , a "M" stamped under ejector rod on barrel. Flat top strap and flat muzzle. Action is awesome, rampant colt on left side near cylinder release.
Stamped on barrel left side is Colt 357 under that is 357magnum ctg. Right side barrel is colt mfg hartford ct. It is kind of a blocky looking thing but interesting revolver.
Any help is very much appreciated. THanks

Looks like a Colt Trooper with aftermarket grips.....or a Colt .357 Magnum (which was just a Deluxe version of the Trooper).

The first double-action .357 magnum produced by Colt just after WWII was called the Colt .357. This is what you have. It's an I-frame gun like the Python. The stocks are definitely aftermarket; which is too bad as the original wood stocks are selling for $150+ a pair.

These guns were not made in any great number. A Colt collector would likely be interested.
