Default Figs!

Gotta love fresh figs! The birds and I have an understanding: I pick the ones I can reach, and they can have the ones higher up. ... Now if I could just get the wasps in on the agreement!

Those figs sure look good Somo.

When I was a kid we had a fig 'tree' and a rhubarb plant that just kept on giving.

My mom was always baking rhubarb pies, cobblers etc. & fig cookies and stuff.

We got better than 8 dozen ears of corn , three gallons of figs (trees are still loaded), four watermelons, six cantaloupes and two more tomatoes just this morning !

I will never forget the huge fig tree my grandparents had in their back yard when I was a kid. I can still taste the figs from that tree!

Either that or Celeste. I've been having trouble trying to determine which they are.

Deal! But you'll have to wait until the next picking ... I've already eaten all the ones I picked this morning!

I'm jealous. I haven't had a good, fresh fig in years.

Are you gonna smoke them? I LOVE smoked figs. Put them in the smoker with some hickory, or apple wood. Smoke them for a few hours and man, they are fantastic.

Here, check out what this dude did... http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/for...?threadid=6130

Nice of you to share your fig's, Rom!

I've been sharing my Red Gravenstein apples w/ the ants. We have an agreement..I try not to pick the apples on the tree, they are eating, & they try not to eat the apples on the tree I want to pick.

It's a dwarf tree, & I have picked about 5 gallons of apples so far. They come in lots earlier than the other apples. Hope to get a few more gallons in the next couple of weeks.

The apples that fall on the ground, I leave under the tree to mulch in over the Fall/Winter. Never used fertilizer, & only spray for bugs & leaf curl once in the Spring. I get some real tasty apples!

You don't want to lose the little wasps, SoMo. They're called "fig wasps" and they actually pollinate your figs so they'll get ripe enough to eat.

I've never heard of smoking figs. And the smoker made from a flower pot is new to me, too. The figs in your link sure look good, though.

Nah, my wasps are the regular red wasps ... you know, the ones that will chase you all over the yard if you make 'em mad. My figs are self-pollinating, so they don't have the little fig wasps.

Here's some from this evening. The wasps had already gone to bed, but the skeeters dang near carried me away!
