I kind'a like it...Shot a box of 50 today (Winchester 240 grain Jacketed Soft Points). Shootin' at an ol' puter tower that puked...started at 12 yards... movin' back in 5 yard increments (adjusting the scope)...50 yds. was my final...Puter tower is not so good a'shape now...I'm a'thinkin i'm a'gunna hang on to this one...well fer awhile anyway!...

Nice revolver!! I've got a standard Redhawk myself. Those big bores are quite fun. Get you some big cast booletts and back on up to 100yds.

Nice looking, Dale.
My first .44 mag was an older S&W 629 made either the first or second year of stainless, in first class condition. Before SoMo got me the 1911, I carried it religiously whenever I could. Love to shoot it, too.

Nice looking gun there SG.....
I'll never forget the first and only time I fired a .44 Magnum. While shooting my Ruger SA .357 Mag at an indoor range, the guy in the booth next to me was shooting a S&W 629 that was knocking the shooting glasses off my head. So I asked him what the howitzer was, and he loaded 6 rounds into it, and handed it over to me. I fired the first round and the gun ended up over my head.....I fired the secound round, and couldn't feel my hands anymore...at that point I handed it back before I dropped it on the floor and shot my foot off....... The .357 Magnum is plenty powerful enough for me.....

Made a big mistake - I actually held a Ti 44 Mountain Gun over the weekend. That should really be a palm buster!!! Felt like it weighed about as much as the 6 rounds of ammo it held.
The bad thing was, it really fit good - hogue grips and all - and now I'm hooked!!!!! Stickered at $650...... |

Smoken Guns, you've got a beaut there in that scoped Redhawk.
You're nuts if you trade it off...thats a keeper...but I'm nuts to, never could keep a gun more than about 20 years then get the blasted itch to sell or trade...might be a firearms yeast infection. This is the only .44 mag I presently own...back around 59 had a Ruger flat top in that caliber with a serial number under 1,000 and it was bought at Kleins in Chicargo where the Oswald Carcano rifle came from. They went out of business shortly after kennedy was assasinated. GG |

The Colt revolver in .44 magnum only made in the Anaconda model, but many different barrel lengths.
I've even seen some subbys in it...about 3 or 4 inchers...and think it went up to long as 10 inches. It is a really fine revolver and have told myself, self...you better hang onto this gun...unless you get a trading whack at some 3rd model .44 special like nearly NIB cherry condition. I am died in the wool S&W addict of the older guns. Gunguy ![]() |

Now Jim, you just send that little feller down here to Texas for a visit with his cousin Mr. Smith model 29 6" nickel. He is very lonely in my safe, except for his cousin Mr. Ruger. That boy deserves the best company a man can afford. When can I expect it? Please let me know as I have bought a good deal of WW296 for it to digest. Only feed em the best, ya know! I figure in about three months I can send him back fat and happy!
Nice Colt, Jim! SG, I have his little brother in 41 Mag. Love them Rugers!

Here's a shot of mine mentioned above taken by Precious (SoMo).
I really enjoy shooting and carrying it. It's a little too big for her small hands, though.

I thought about maybe getting one, but the price of ammo would put me even deeper in the poor house. I guess thet're not too bad for you fellers that reload, but I'm not a reloader, and only shoot....(the cheapest)...factory ammo I can find.
One of the things I like about the .357 Mag, you can shoot cheap .38 Spl through it all day, and bring maybe one or two boxes of the expensive Magnum stuff along for the thrill factor.

Say there ViperGTSRO1, anychance you could get your Country's Simplex reloading machine for the little 5/8 dies price sheet and put it on the threads here...or a private message to myself.
I've tried to contact that Simples outfit in Australia but we cannot make a download connection with our computers. I'm only interested in the smaller lot that has the little 5/8-30 thread dies. Many thanks if you can get that price sheet for me. Jim aka Gunguy |

SG, Nice pistol! Got one like it with Leupold M8-2X on it.
My first 44 mag was the AutoMag TDE version from El Monte, Ca. Finally traded it for a passal of other guns. |

Now Rick, you know I can't send that Anaconda through the mail as a loaner, da federales would bust my chops.
Besides, you only need a BB gun to shoot dem little scrubby tick deer you Texacans got down there. 296 powder, never tried any of that. You get these dad nab gun laws recinded and I'll send my whole pride down there for you to shoot. Gunguy ![]() |

GG, you da man. If you have never used either WW296 or Hogden H110 in magnum charges, you will be quite suprised. WW296 has to be used as directed, no playing with charges, but it is great. Make sure you use the Winchester LP primers, as they are hot. When the round goes off, it pushes the recoil into your hand gently instead of a massive punch. I swear by it for magnum loads. Is a ball type powder and meters real nice through a measure. The WW296 is very clean burning and so is the H110. Nothing like the dirty old 2400! Try it, you''ll like it!
Sorry your Colt can't come out and play. You're right though, these stupid laws are killing us. Mr. Smith will be lonely. I told him about his cousin up North and he was quite anxious to learn more. However, thanks to our guberment, he'll just have to keep playing with Mr. Ruger (Blackhawk - 7 1/2" blue and Blackhawk stainless 4 5/8")). Stay warm, my friend. You be right about them little collie sized deer down here. Need several to make a decent meal. Miss my AZ mulies! Looking for your tap set as we speak!

Rick, I can't remember what year the Boeing 707 went with the airlines, but back in Dec. 59 caught a TWA one to Chicargo to visit an ole Navy buddy and of course took along a suitcase full of guns...it wasn't even locked, weighed a ton with the ammo.
Checked it into counter and it went into the aircraft lugage hold...no one stole anything. Didn't declare anything, just walked to the plane without going through a metal dectector. Had a good visit and a good shoot. My buddy's dad gave me a 1873 Winchester in 32-20 caliber when I was getting ready to catch the jet back home. Had stop at a sporting goods store and pick up a soft case to transport it in. When I got on the plane the stew called the pilot and he said in a very nice manner "we'll keep it up front with us until we land" I said fine...look it over if you want to...its an old timer. Now look at us today...things have gotten really sorry. Jim |
