Got a Colt 38 Police Spl. Made in 1949. Can I shoot +p's?

Hi Cannon450......welcome to TFF.

If it's in good condition, I would say "yes", but not as a steady diet.

Your gun was designed and built for standard velocity .38 Special cartridges. It should be strong enough to handle the occasional use of +P ammunition, but it wasn't designed for it.

Thanks Xracer, It is in near perfect condition. It was my Dad's service revolver.

In that case....it's a family heirloom. I wouldn't use any +Ps in it at all.

If you wish to shoot it, just use regular .38 Spl. loads, clean it well, and keep it in it's present condition. Some day you may wish to pass it on to your children.
