Here's an item from NewsMax News Alerts that shows why she all of a sudden seemed to accept responsibility. No wonder the change of heart......
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Breaking News from NewsMax.com Kathleen Blanco: I Should Have Called the Military Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco's abrupt decision Wednesday night to take responsibility for her state's inadequate response to the Hurricane Katrina disaster followed an inadvertent confession that was caught on camera where Blanco admitted she blew it. "I really should have called for the military," Blanco said, while chatting with her press secretary in between TV interviews. "I really should have started that in the first call." Unbeknownst to Blanco, her bombshell acknowledgment was recorded on a network satellite feed, and by Tuesday the clip was getting wide exposure in Louisiana news broadcasts. In the early days of the Katrina crisis, disaster management experts repeatedly blamed the failure to send in the National Guard for the city's descent into chaos. Most observers blamed the White House for the blunder - a misconception that was thoroughly dispelled by the governor's inadvertent confession. Some say Blanco's blooper was responsible for the abrupt change of tone in her speech Wednesday night to the Louisiana legislature. Where earlier she and her aides had openly blamed the Bush administration for bungling Katrina rescue efforts, Blanco announced: "The buck stops here, and as your governor, I take full responsibility." Just as surprising were Blanco's words of praise for the White House: "I want the people of Louisiana to know that we have a friend and a partner in President George W. Bush. I thank you, Mr. President."
Yeah, go figure.
Ray Nagin has been touting his " I take responsibility" B.S. too, everyone cutting and pasting the same lines from the Presidents speech who agreed to take responsibilty for a fiasco that isn't even his. These salesmen make me sick. You can bet none of them plan to actually take responsibility for anything, the whole concept of responsibility has been eliminated or reworked to mean simply blaming the next guy in line...kinda like "It depends on what the definition of the word 'is' is", (Thanks Billary). As soon as these yahoos start blabbering about "responsibility" their mic's should immediately be cut and the clown from Showtime at the Apollo should come out with the gaff and drag their sorry double talkin' asses off the stage. These con's should be tarred and feathered and rode out of town.
It's unfortunate, but the damage was already done. Hence the Bush "I am responsible statement". Had he come out stating all he tried to do, he would have been lambasted for trying to pass the buck. Look at the latest polls to see where he stands. The Democraps are still howling about how he did it all! A leopard cannot change his spots, hence the Democraps will still keep this as a front runner to bash Bush!
I think the biggest mistake made by Bush and Brown was they underestimated the incompetence of the gov and mayor.
Meanwhile, Bush was awfully busy last night with his little speech, talking about all these new socialist programs he's going to implement. Just as I predicted. He "took responsibility" and now he's grabbing power and increasing the size and scope of the Federal government. Again.
We never learn. |
This should have been a wake up call to alot of people, our goverment is failing, miserably, even at the state level. Our military is stretched to thin, We can get the 82nd airborn anywhere in the world in 18 hours but it takes 4 days to get national guard into New Orleans. I don't understand how anyone can feel safe under this adminstration, what if it was a terrorist attack and not a hurricane that people knew was coming for a week, How long would it take the gov to respond? Weeks? Thats unacceptable.
Yesterday, bush lead a "National Day of prayer" for Katrina victims. Hopefully he'll also pray for a way to pay for all this without raising taxes. I think that will be one prayer that gets answered, he will just bloat the national deficit by billions. What do you think that will do to Medicare, the Veterans Administration and other programs that help working Americans? And if he thinks this prayer idea will do any good at all...why didn't he think of it BEFORE the hurricane hit land??? Now he's asking God to undo the damage that God is responsible for visiting apon the south in the first place! Can't all good christians see that God wanted all those people dead and the rest left homeless? The hurricane was an ACT OF GOD! It was God's will that it happened. Why pray to him now? To get him to change his mind? bush has already signed contracts to rebuild N.O. with Halliburton (remember them from Iraq, Cheney's old company). I think I'll say a small prayer tonight that he changes his mind on that and hires a company that's not full of crooks and his croonys!
They could pay for it easily if the congress cut the pork. The amount of political payback spending is obscene. Cut it and use that wasted money where it is more needed.
Sadly I guarantee you won't hear that. ![]()
Sat 66, you are entirely correct, to the dismay of most of us, here!
The salary dictated for Congressmen, and Senators, is listed in Dollars; nowhere, do I find, the addendum "And all you can steal", yet the addendum often exceeds the base salary! Perhaps an "All Day Picnic, And Hangin', On The Grounds", is what it would take, to make things work right, again; perhaps, even that would not be enough. I caught some mail, the other day, from the Captain of the USS Iwo Jima, which was on station, in New Orleans, a week before the storm. He says FEMA was there before he arrived. His ship has been the 'unofficial' relief station, for emergency workers, with air access, since day one, with showers, water, toilets, and air conditioning that work! Endless meetings of 'Flag Level' officers, from various branches of service, and the 'floating airport' of New Orleans, 'til the other one rose from the waters. He did not just decide to take a cruise to the Gulf; rather, the entire administration, above him, dictated that he be there; so much for GW "accepting Blame". GW may be many things, but a coward, or a politician, in the classic sense, he is not! He argued, I am told, for five days, with the governor of La, to mobilize the guard, but she did not. With essentially no legal authority, he sent in the 82nd, anyhow. He put his a** on the line, and, then, later apologized for it, for the sake of folks who were told, well in advance, to get out, and were stupid or stubborn enough to stay in the face of the impending disaster! Look at the current "American Rifleman", and see the good he has done in Judicial Appointments, many timely in Congressional Recess, so as to get the job done, without any arguement; this guy is certainly not "charismatic", ala Clinton, or "forceful", ala Truman, but he's in there working, 100% of the time; his geography, oft criticised by the media, has no bearing: He 'git's 'er done' from where ever he is at, and that,to me, makes him a more than significant Commander in Chief!!!
