My wife was on eBay and read something that said that any sales of firearms paid for through PayPal would result in the freezing of your account. Does anyone have any info on this?

eBay doesn't allow firearms sales. eBay owns Paypal. Paypal doesn't allow firearms purchases. Simple as that.
Of course they won't know it is if it is a sale outside of eBay.

5 days ago, my sons MS acct got hacked, and 100 dollars worth of stuff was charged to his paypal acct. He contacted MS and paypal and informed them both of the breach. Day before yesterday, paypal took his money anyway!
![]() ![]() ![]() He contacted them again today, and they (paypal) told him they'd move his claim up a notch. ![]() ![]() ![]() So much for the fine print. ![]()

I've used Paypal for years, selling on ebay as well as using it for payments on my sight tools and most of my business purchases. I've never had any problems, as when I started using them I took the time to actually read the sections pertaining to prohibited usages. Firearm purchases are only allowed from a seller that had been approved by Paypal, not sure what the process would be for that. Ammunition purchases are also not allowed, as are numerous other items such as "adult" entertainment items, it's pretty specific. You can read across the internet people who had their accounts frozen and terminated, one thing in common is that they basically didn't pay attention to the rules. Remember, Paypal's located in California, that will explain most of it. Their standing on the firearm and ammunition stems from avoiding implication in the use of the same in illegal activities that could lead to them being included in any lawsuits.

My debit card has been hacked twice in the past. One phone call to my bank locked everything up. Tight! Paypal took his money anyway. They KNEW there was a dispute and robbed him. ![]()

over the years I've bought a boat load of firearm related items on eBay and paid thru PayPal and never had a problem.
I just sold a B&C stock, he paid with PP.

We were with PayPal from before it was PayPal (it was called X.com when it started). Was a Gold PowerSeller on eBay with gun parts doing $5K a month just with PayPal. Then Virginia Tech happened and eBay/PayPal shut it down, just like that. Lost about $500.
Dumped eBay and PayPal both, never looked back.

I only use em when i hafta and I dont keep a paypal balance. Money is transferred to paypal whan i need to use it and any payments made to paypal get transferred to my bank account within 24 hours. they are crooked, but their existence is necessary in some cases..

I have a separate bank account strictly for PayPal. It has $10.00 in it so I don't have to pay a monthly fee. If I buy something, I transfer just enough into it to cover the purchase. If I sell something, the money is transferred out as soon as it hits the account. I DO NOT carry any kind of a "PayPal" balance.
I would prefer to work with Postal Money Orders, but Ebay is making that difficult to do anymore....... |

I've never had a problem, even had claims with PayPal before. Yes you lose the money for some time, but think if you were on the other side as a buyer. I would be pissed if I sold something, shipped it, and then PayPal just decided since there was a dispute I did not get my money.
Gotta protect both sides. I got all my money back on my claim, was not overnight but I got it back and at minimal effort on my part too.

Well,yeah... the good reason is that Paypal specifically states that they can't be used to purchase firearms.

Not being a pay-pal person, I am just wondering about this account you all speak of. Is this set up where you have a balance and it's only accessable by pay-pal to cover transactions or do they go directly to your bank account? My daughter uses it all the time. She's purchased once fired brass for me and even made my contributiin to this sute for me with it and had no problems. Like I said, I am just about this account thing.

You can set up account to come out of a credit card or bank account or multiple accounts. You do not have to have a balance but they charge a % of every seller transaction. I have had a few issues with no pay and people trying to hack my account in the past but they have always made it right......(never sold firearm related items)

I sold something didn't put insurance on it with USPS. The buyer sent me an email saying he got the item and liked it. Then turned around and charged It back to me saying he didn't get it. The froze my account and said I needed to pay him back. I said he got the item and emailed me saying he got it. PayPal said so what herold us he didn't get the item you owe him a refund if you don't you won't be allowed to use PayPal. told them to stuff it and started a new account.
I have stopped usingebay for the most part to many people trying to makea living doing eBay. Then you got the idiots that just run the price up on everything. See people all the time buying a $10 item effort $50. |

I might be lucky, I have not had any problems with PayPal. I have brought a number of gun related things using the system, of course you can't buy firearms with it though, and that is a pain in the ***.

I am a pretty active gamer, and a lot of services you can purchase for other people to do for you in games, or even sell items in games vs $$ use paypal frequently. The problem is most people just take the service, or items, and chargeback the account, getting w/e it was for free. For items in particular, this is what happens. Most people have switched over to using money orders for this (western union, etc...)
The OP about firearm stuff is just another reason I'll never touch paypal, plus I know far too many people getting screwed over it. |

I use paypal for almost everything I buy on the net. I have two credit cards on file, and can charge to either one. You do not have to have a checking account to pay for purchases. If you'd rather pay with a check, you can.
A lot of the sellers want to see you have been verified by paypal as legitimate. You can do that easily. They ask for you checking acct routing number, and then make a deposit of less than a dollar into your acct. You tell them the amount that was deposited, and your verified. I've never had the first issue with them. And when buying something, I always look for paypal under Payment Method. It's safer. Never send anybody cash....for any reason.

I NEVER send anything without delivery confirmation...I mean, it's .80...although overseas shipping doesn't have it available on First Class and registered is just too expensive for most smaller purchases.

Yup, only took me one burn where they claimed they didn't get the item, of course the post office could have delivered to wrong address or lost item so .80 is worth it. If I sell something bigger then I use FedEx over UPS just because insurance up to $150 is free.
