A MANNEQUIN banned from standing for election has been seized by police in Aberdeen.

Officers took mannequin Helena Torry into custody at Grampian Police’s Aberdeen headquarters yesterday and the campaigning dummy’s agent Renee Slater was questioned for six hours after having both fingerprint and DNA samples taken.

A police investigation was launched to examine claims of election fraud after it was revealed mannequin Helena Torry, a candidate for the Hazlehead, Ashley and Queens Cross ward in next month’s elections, was a dummy.

Dummy Helena Torry hires a lawyer

Mannequin Helena Torry is battling Aberdeen City Council’s decision to prevent her running for a seat.

Election agent Renee Slater said last night: “I’ve spoken to a lawyer and I think I can appeal.

“Helena meets all the criteria and I think we’ve got a good case for putting her back on the candidate list. I’m not going to stop fighting this.”

Helena — said to be the voice of the silent majority — was a candidate for just one day before officials called in police.

Now she is fighting for her political life as cops investigate her and Renee for election fraud.

But shop owner Renee already has gathered hundreds of signatures of support on a petition.

She said: “Helena may not be real but she has an agent, address and witness so she should be allowed to stand.”

Renee has hired the brief to lodge a complaint with the Election Court.

A council spokesman said: “This continues to be a police matter.” Cops said inquiries are “ongoing.”

She needs to cut the dummy up, place it in a box and bury it. As soon as that's done, the agent runs for the office and has the dummy vote for her. The dead are allowed to do that.
