I recently acquired a S & W Model 586 .357 revolver. Any advice on how to clean it properly? Can anyone recommend a good "How To Clean Your Firearm" video? Thanks

To clean the 586 you will need a .357 borebrush,.357 cleaning jag, Hoppe's #9, cleaning patches and a toothbrush.
Scrub the bore and cylinders with the borebrush dipped in Hoppe's #9. Scrub the fowling from the front and rear of the cylinder with the toothbrush also dipped in Hoppe's. Wipe down the cylinder with cleaning patches. Then using the cleaning jag, run dry cleaning patches down the bore and cylinders until the patches come out clean. After this is completed, run a lightly oiled patch thru the bore and cylinders. Then, apply oil to another patch and rub down the 586. Before shooting your revolver, run a dry patch thru the bore to remove any oil. |

Yup, Shooer45 has the answer. I would only like to add one thing. Make sure the bore brush is not made of stainless steel, it will scratch the bore and cylinder walls. I prefer the plastic when I use a high ammonia content bore cleaner and a phospher-bronze brush with Hoppe's #9.
