Obama enjoys lofty job approval among Floridians

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- New President Barack Obama is almost as popular with Floridians as Gov. Charlie Crist.
A new poll released Thursday by Quinnipiac University showed 64 percent of 1,001 Florida voters surveyed said they liked the way Obama was handling the job, despite the furor over an economic stimulus package the Democratic president signed into law Tuesday.
Only 23 percent said they disapproved of the way Obama was handling his duties.
Fla. leads nation in rise in food stamp requests

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- As the economy tanks, the number of families relying on food stamps for their next meal is rising nationally. Florida has seen the biggest jump, with a 29 percent increase.
More than 408,835 new recipients were added to Florida's list in the past year, prompting state leaders to look for help in funding the increase.
