Imported shrimp have ruined our industry. Many restaurants and grocery stores would rather buy seafood from overseas. These shrimp are grown in stagnant ponds in China and other countries.

My home town, Bayou La Batre, was built on the seafood industry. Now it is dieing. Imports are cheaper driving our prices to an all time low. Last month 40-50's(40-50 to a pound)were going for $1.10 per lb. That's what we got paid to unload them at the
dock.

Recently the government has started inspecting imports a little closer. Local news papers are covering it. So far a few loads have been found to contain diseases. Before you by shrimp at your local store ask if they were caught in America or just packaged here. Many families down here are depending on ya'll.

We are rapidly becoming a nation of "consumers only", not producers. The majority of the American public will always buy the cheapest, regardless where it is produced.
Makes me wonder just where we are headed

From now on before I order shrimp in a restaurant I'll ask where they came from first.

Chad, I would like to personally try to help out your economy. How much to ship about 25 pounds of say 9's-12's to Missouri? I need a shrimp on the bbq fix. I have a great Remoulade sauce just waiting.

I am not set up to sell shrimp and have no idea what shipping and all would cost, but my sister and her husband just started a company called Island Shrimp. I appreciate you all taking time to read my gripe about this and especially thankful that yall are doing what you can to help out!

Thanks, Chad

Thanks every one for letting me vent. I've been watching this town slowly die for a while now. Government restrictions, T.E.D.'s, imports, and finally 9/11 have almost completely shut us down. Thanks for the support.

P.S. my sister ready and waiting for your order.

Hmm. Sounds like you need to build yourself a few stagnant ponds
