I have a Colt SA Army 38 special caliber revolver. Barrel is 5 3/8" blue and the frame is a beautiful case color.. It has what appears to be ivory grips (I'm not positive). The blueing is 100%. The cylinder has just a slight trace of the ring wear. Patent dates are Sept 19, 1871, July 2, 72, Jan 19, 75. Serial is 14XXSA. It appears to be unfired but has no box or papers.

I bought it from a private individual about 20 years ago and have never fired it.
What is its value?

Hi Slotman1.....welcome to TFF.

Your SAA is a 2nd generation model, manufactured from 1956 to 1965. Value is:

95% = $1200
98% = 1600

If the ivory grips are original Colt, that would add to the value, but I'm not sure how much.

If the serial number is 4 digits ahead of the SA, then it was made in 1956. It is '2nd Generation' and would reliably bring the $1600 figure. In fact, probably a couple of hundred more since these earliest guns often were actually pre-war guns that were simply finished later. Ivory grips would add $300-$400.
