Default Type of gun to reload

Want to purchase another gun.
The gun will be for self defense and competition shooting (IDPA,USPS).

I also want to reload my own ammo.

What caliber of gun is the best as far as reloading ability?
By this I mean availibility of components (brass, bullets, powder, primer).

Cost of above.

I'm thinking a 9mm, 40 or 45. I was told that a 45 is the easiest and most available of the three?

Is a Glock out if I want to reload?
What gun handles reloads best? Does the gun actually matter?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You can reload all the mentioned ammo but the easiest to do would, IMHO, be the .45 ACP.

I would opt, and I hate to start the flippant argument over again, for a good 1911-A1, and my preference would be Springfield as it is relatively inexpensive but a super gun, very reliable and basically unflawed. I have a Springfield Mil-Spec and wouldn't trade it for all the tea in China.

Glock recommends that you do not use reloads in their guns.

As long as it is made of Steel, there is no problem.

Look at what Marlin showed you. The best for what you would need. SA, you can't go wrong. Also Kimber is a nice choice.

Look around and in this thread.

Good luck.

Go for 45 in 1911 style pistol. SA or Kimber.

For the purposes you state, .45ACP is the way to go.

1.) It's the most inherently accurate of the cartridges you've mentioned.

2.) It's very easy to reload with a wide variety of bullets and powders available.

3.) For self defense, it's about as good as it gets.

And yes, the gun matters. I too, would recommend a 1911 type firearm.....for it's versatility, accuracy, and reliability.
