Default H&R 38 S&W Hammerless

My father at the age of 12, found a H&R 38 S&W Hammerless back
in 1942, in the Niagara river. He is 83 years old, he decided to give it to
me. I want to restore/assemble it without spending of $ for a gunsmith.I
bought what parts I could from Numrich. Can a large frame barrel(38s&w)
be adapted to a small frame (22lr,32s&w) receiver? When i buy parts for
my large frame hammerless, the parts end up being small frame parts. So
I'm wondering if the frames are interchangeable, please help!
