Default Vote the party line?

In the past I've always just voted "straight republican" party line ticket.

It was easier than trying to keep up with the track record of every candidate in every race, be it federal, state or local. (Yes, I was lazy and I apologize).

But this race is too important to allow some liberal, disguised as a conservative to slip past me. (General Colin P.O.W.ell) reminded me of that.
(POW as in, if Powell and his liberal, socialist, marxist and dare I say it communist cohorts win, we will all be prisoners of war.

Question: for the upcoming Nov. elections, where can we go to check the voting records and their political beliefs for each state. I live in Texas.

I always found Gun Owners of America(GOA) ratings to be pretty good.
NRA ratings are ok but sometimes I think they miss the boat.

I have found that if people who unquestionably support the true meaning of the 2nd Ammendment, they 99 % of the time are conservative on other issues as well.

Shame on you.

As it gets closer to elections, I find this sight helpful.
Pretty much older stuff right now.

More talk and discussion of those elected officials postions are critical to effecting a reversal of the "change" being shoved down out throats right now. Like outing liberals masking as conservatives. Their past records are a direct indication to future issues. Don't believe what they say, believe what they have already done.

I used to vote Republican for country, Democrat for state. That's it. A party vote. My pop (a veteran teacher) always told me that it was best for education with that combo. So I went with it.

Years past and my own priorities took hold, I started looking at the candidate. My priorities were Education, Health and Environment, in that order. I held Democrat for state but would, on occation, vote Democrat (or even Independent) for country.

Recently (in the last 10 years or so) I have been paying more attention to state rights, 2nd amendment and taxation. Education has fallen to the second slot and Health to the top. I ALWAYS look at the individual now, but not for party affiliation confirmation. I have an interesting set of beliefs and values that makes me both Democrat and Republican. I can be straight up right winger on some issues then turn and appear to be a bleeding heart liberal.

I get confused easily.

But at least you are voting on issues important to you and that you believe in. Regardless of how you vote, I say thanks for doing your part as an American. More people need to be like you and vote the issue not the person.

Excellent observation and fits what I have found as well.

Print this out and send it to 'them'.

Long story short: A few years back, I developed a political questionnaire to help pin down the double-speak and weasel words that are the norm. It's past time for people who would presume to represent us to show us they understand what our rights are. I expect them to consider the right to keep and bear arms not as an embarrassing lip service requirement, but as an enshrined unalienable right. I don't want them just to defend it, I want them to know how and why to proudly champion it.

Here it is. Consider using it to pin down the next fork-tongued glad-hander who solicits you for support. And let them know you intend to make their answers--or lack of response--available to every gun owner within your sphere of influence:
1. Do you believe that the Constitution is the "supreme law of the land" and that the Bill of Rights acknowledges our birthrights?

2. If so, should these rights be proactively protected from infringement by all levels of government, including city, county and state?

3. Please give some examples of gun laws you consider constitutional.

4. Please give some examples of gun laws you consider unconstitutional.

5. Does the right to bear arms include the right for any peaceable citizen to carry them concealed without a permit, as in Vermont?

6. Do you believe that Americans have a right to own, use and carry weapons of military pattern, and will you use the prestige of elected office to publicly promote that right?

7. Do you support or oppose registration of weapons? Why?

8. Do you support or oppose licensing requirements to own or carry firearms?
Why?

9. What specific gun laws will you work to get repealed?

10. If elected, will you back your words of support for firearms rights up with consistent actions? How?

------------

Thats some good stuff Marlin. Problem is we are getting more and more liars that tell us what we want to hear. I am a conservative that has become sick of both parties. I am afraid that even if we get rid of the problem at hand and vote in a republican, its going to be more of the same. If you cast your vote for another party, such as libertarian, it seems certain that its not going to count and it will seem like a wasted vote. We have no choice but to do our homework and choose those who we hope will do the right thing. I just wish we could pass a term limit law for every position out there and get new blood in there every few years. I really hope a true conservative will rise up from somewhere.....

I question candidates right down to and including the town level about their feelings on the second amendment. We had a town rep that defeated a long time rep that was very good on firearms in the purge of 2006. The new rep was an arrogrant A/H that gave me snippy answers and actually told me he would vote how he pleased. We had a young woman run against him in 2008 that is a second amendment supporter and she actually came to my home when I first sent her an e-mail question to talk and answer face to face and that impressed me. I help her by putting up signs and passing out fliers. She won and that jerk can crawl back in his hole. In 2010 I'm going to make a contribution to her campaign as she has kept to her word by her voting record.

I think we need to do our homework and support those that support us. If you have the time or money then they can use both. If not letters to the editor, lawn signs whatever you can do.

Here's my dillema.
The ignoarant voters where I live have adopted the 'top two' system.
People vote in the primary and the top two vote getters go to the finals.
Two Libs doesn't leave me any reason to vote. A Dem and a Rep leaves me little reason to vote.

I'm tired of picking the lesser of 2 evils.

How do I stand a chance?

There is an availability of potential new candidates from those whose businesses have been forced out of business not by the economy but by Govt. fiat. i.e. the Auto Dealers and some banks and investment houses who have been steam rollered. Many Moms are starting to get involved on the internet and a few are running for Govt. office. I have hope as long as we have elections. Many of these people are reclaiming their party. I remember when the pro-lifers took over from the country club Republicans. They never knew what hit them. They brought their Conservative values and Ronald Reagan with them. There is still hope.

Single issue/party voters are big part of what is wrong with the politicians in this country. In many cases, you can be a moron and as long as you're part of the right party in the right area, you get elected. This, sadly, is true of people of all ideologies. Take the time to look at who you're voting for. Otherwise, you really have no right to complain about anything.

The Republicans have tried the Dem-lite approach and we can see where it's got them. Consider the NY-23rd district. A Conservative candidate has the potential to beat both the hand-picked Liberal Rep and the liberal Dem. The key is that the Conservative Party actually has a presence in NY, being where the conservative Republicans have gone to.

It's time to get more Conservative Parties set up in the states, to replace the Republican Party.

Do we need to throw out the party names "Republican and Democrat" and just replace them with "Conservative and Socialist"?

Seems to me that would make it more clear who was who.

That won't work for the simple reason that the Republicans are no longer a conservative party. They are, at best, center-left.

Not even close. Not eeeeeeven close. The word Socialist is being thrown around like people actually know what it is. It's not just here but, quite to my alarm, in many places. And the issue here isn't based on fact (or simple definition) rather than ignorance of what Socialism is. Democrats are not Socialists. Socialists are not Democrats. Comparing them is comparing apples to oranges. They do not equate.

Communism. Socialism. Capitalism. There are fundamental differences in these forms of government. Communist. Socialist. Capitalist. There are fundamental differences in the way these people feel about governmental control.

And while you will find some similarities between them, you cannot mix definitions and survive a debate between learned individuals on an even playing field.

No, it isn't. That's the point. If the definition does not fit, it is not a duck. It is a completely different genus. A goose perhaps. Maybe even as far up as family, class, order, phylum or kingdom.

Cool video Bob. The end was a little black and white and it offered no gray, but nonetheless a good watch.
