What is the approximate value of the following solid-frame H&R revolvers?:
1. Large H&R, solid frame d.a., 5 shot .44bulldog caliber, nickle plated. Condition from 70 to 90%. 2. Medium solid frame d.a. marked, “The H&R Bull Dog” on the top strap. It is in .32 rimfire caliber. It’s about 35% nickle. Thank you.

these two revolvers are a variation of the H&R American Double Action (1888-1941). the 44 caliber is actually the 44 webley caliber, which will also chamber the 44 bulldog cartridge. the 44 webley chambering was discontinued in 1921 the H&R Bull Dog is the rimfire variant offered only in 6 shot 32 rimfire and 5 shot 38 rimfire models. the Bull Dog marked models were discontinued in 1923, after that the rimfire chambering became just another caliber offering of the standard American Double Action.
both of these revolvers were offered as a black powder model (1888-1904) and a smokeless power model (1905-1941). as both models look alike the only way to tell the difference is the markings on the left side of the barrel. the second models (smokeless powder) will have the company name address and CALIBER marked on the left side of the octagon barrel. no caliber markings means black powder only. value of course is dependant on condition and will range from 60%=$75.00 to 99%= $235.00. non functional models will be considerable less regardless of the amount of finish remaining. bill
