Default 1989 Browning Hi-Power

Belgium/Portugal BHP. Serial number indicates it's from 1989. I added the Hogue grips. The adjustable rear sight hints that it may be a "sport" model. But you guys are the experts.

Nice tight gun. Doesn't feel like it's had any hot loads run through it, unlike my previous BHP.

So what do you guys think it's worth?

White Hawk,
You have a very nice gun. The finish is original and in good shape.
But those grips........ should be very far away from any High Power.

I guess Luis's pistol is the finish I am used to seeing. Both are excellent weapons.

Is this better?

I'm glad you said something, as I had forgotten I still had the stock grips. A little digging and... tada! Back to original. I take it this helps the value..?

IMHO real High Powers are made and assembled in Belgium, come only in blue, and only in 9mm caliber.

Real Belgian High Powers also came in hard chrome finish.

I used to have an all-Belgium one that was hard chrome, with the Pachmayr grips. It also had an orange front ramp, adjustable rear sight, and a gold trigger. I've seen a few others like it, but don't know what version it's called.

My dad bought it from me years ago. He said "Don't worry, you'll inherit it."

I've heard rumors that the .40 version has suffered fracture issues.

Luis,
Those are etched. The earlier Renaissance models were hand engraved with full coverage.

Luis,

Awesome commemorative! How the heck can you have that in Canada these days?

I have 2 Browning Hi-Powers - a set of HP Practicals with one in 9mm and one in 40S&W. I thoroughly enjoy shooting both, especially since they have a commander style hammer (I get hammer bite on the older HPs and 1911s). Next time I break them down though, I am going to remove the mag safety.

The HPs always fit like a glove in my hand.
