I have a friend that has a Hopkins & Allen 32 Caliber pistol. It is in excellent condition and the number on it is 2738. There is also XL. No 2 1/2 stamped on it and Pat. Mar 28, 1871 and Apr 27, 1875. Can you tell me what it is worth.

an H&A revolver with these patent dates was made before 1899 when a fire shut down all of H&A production. upon on restarting production all now (old designs were produced, H&A purchased forehand arms co. and only manufactured forehand designed revolvers and shotguns for several years.
the blue book 30th edition puts all of H&A production into one catagory and does not seperate the models between post 1899 and pre 1899. they list the XL series of double action revolvers as 100%=$160 down ot 60%=$55. all H&A revolvers shoudl be treated as black powder only firearms. bill
