Taliban sacks Oruzgan shadow governor - The Firearms Forum

THE Taliban's shadow governor for Oruzgan province has been sacked for failing to put up a good enough fight against Australian and Afghan forces.

Commander of Australian Defence Force Joint Operations Lieutenant General Ash Power said that showed how the insurgency was suffering under ongoing pressure during the traditional quiet winter season and again during the most recent northern summer "fighting season."

That pressure would be sustained next year, he said.
In May, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, the Taliban leadership based in Pakistan, issued a proclamation announcing the start of their spring offensive, titled Operation Badar.

But in Oruzgan province, where Australian troops operate, that failed completely.

"We know for example that the individual charged with commanding the insurgency in Oruzgan, the shadow governor, was relieved of his position recently because of dissatisfaction with his performance," he said in a briefing to reporters.

Lieutenant General Power said that individual had not returned from a safe haven in Pakistan for many months and was simply unable to coordinate insurgent action across the province.

"Nor was he able to lead his fighters. His reluctance and that of his fighters was the direct result of effective partnered disruption operations last winter and this fighting season."
Lieutenant General Power said so far this season Afghan National Security Force patrols, partnered with Australian troops, had located 161 insurgent weapon caches, destroyed eight drug facilities, fought 159 contacts with insurgents, were hit by 33 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and located and destroyed another 102 IEDs.
He said the the Taliban leadership also described how they made great efforts to plan operations to reduce civilian casualties.
But their most comprehensively planned activity in Oruzgan, a series of coordinated attacks on July 28, resulted in 18 civilian deaths, including 12 children, with injuries to another 35.
None of their targets, including the provincial governor and chief of police, were hurt while all insurgents involved were killed.
Lieutenant general Power said it was assessed that such spectacular attacks, primarily designed to influence the perceptions of the Afghan government and the populations of ISAF (International Security Assistance FOrce) coalition members, would continue, as would the accompanying propaganda.
"You can expect over-inflated claims, false allegations and distortion of known facts, specifically focused on ISAF contributing nations," he said.
Lieutenant General Power said his staff had collated insurgent claims for October - more than 1090 ISAF troops and 1089 Afghan soldiers killed - which were clearly ridiculous.

i'm gonna take a stab in the dark and say that the "shadow governor" didn't get to retire to his own private mansion living on a fat pension and sipping(non-alcoholic) margaritas at the beach.

not if i know the talib's he wont , closer to " Acmed , wear this and go there and pull that"

but we got pulled up for hunting these mutt's to their homes in the off season , just because the taliban like to have a break in winter dont mean we gotta do like wise , but the US commander there is angry we are not .. it wasn't good for "relations" , has he forgotten we dont want good relations with the taliban but to kill em every chance we get ?? , now watch the government here pull our guys up ..
