Default Republic arms/Cobra Patriot

Anyone familiar with these arms? I believe Cobra is the name now, but I ran across a Republic arms model at the gun show yesterday. It also had the Cobra name on the owner's manual.
The model I saw was a .45acp. It was light, very concealable, and seemed well made.
The Republic gun had a Chino, Ca. address, which sent up a red flag right away(Jennings), the Cobras I saw had a Utah address.
Are these good guns, or are they just junky Jennings clones? Anyone had any personal experince with one?
