Default IMR 2400?

A friend of mine is asking me if I can help him find IMR 2400 powder. I cant seem to find any reference to this powder on the IMR website. I thought he was mistaken and probably meant Alliant 2400, but he says no.

I have never seen 2400 called anything other than Hercules 2400 or Alliant 2400, but IMR stands for Improved Military Rifle, and I've heard that 2400 powder was used in the M1 carbine round, so perhaps we have two names for the same product.

I think your friend was just confused. 2400 has been around for many years as Dupont Hercules and Alliant. IMR has several pistol/shotgun powders like 700-X, 800-X, SR 4756, IMR 4227, etc but never heard of any IMR with that moniker.

I have some Alliant 2400

Its usually meant for magnum rounds like .357 mag and .44 mag, which I have.

Check the powder visually.

It looks like very small short cylinders (need good eyes)

With bad eyes it'll probably look like small balls.
