Chef blamed for live fish dish
The Associated Press Jul. 8, 2007 09:59 AM TAIPEI, Taiwan - A chef in Taiwan is in trouble with animal lovers after reportedly serving a not-quite-dead fish as a gourmet delicacy. A Taiwanese newspaper says the fish dish includes a carp covered with sweet-and-sour sauce, its body deep-fried but its head still twitching. Animal lovers criticize the practice, saying deep-frying will cause a fish extreme pain. The chef says the dish -- known as "yin yang fish" -- is popular in China. Chefs use it to show customers how very fresh their food is. The newspaper says Taiwanese officials will try to persuade the chef to cook something else.

Those oysters on the 1/2 shell are alive when you eat them.

GOB: "I just cain't figger out how to eat these things." Waiter: "Let me show you, sir." Waiter squirts a little lemon juice on an oyster, noting that it does, indeed, twitch. He then lifts the oyster with the little fork and pops it into his mouth, swallowing it whole. The GOB watches him intently for a moment. "Dang. I did that same one three times and it jus' kept crawling back out!" ![]() Pops |
