Other information for getting my federal firearms license? - The Firearms Forum

I'm looking to obtain my Class 3 so I can start selling some of my brother's rifles legally. I bought this guide off a website, which is in the mail right now. I was wondering if anyone else had any information about getting my Class 3 while I wait for the guide.

A Class 03 license is for curio and relic collectors. You are not permitted to use it to sell weapons. You will need a Class 01 license. You need to go to the ATFB site and read up on the subject.

thangels, hello! You can call the ATF and request an application for an ffl. But I wonder why you would do that to sell some used rifles. Not sure where your at but in Florida you can legally sell your used firearms to someone else without any transfer forms and you dont have to be a dealer. Good luck!

You need an FFL to be "in the business" of selling firearms. If you are just selling off some guns you don't need one. It is when you are buying and selling for profit that you need a license.

There's no such thing as a "class 3 license". There is such a thing as a "Type 3 SOT FFL". This is what you need to be "in the business" of selling NFA items - machine guns, silencers, sawed-off-shotguns, that kind of thing. That, by the way, is what this forum is about - NFA items.

Its all been said already but I will add my 2 cents worth. I think you wasted your money in buying a guide to FFL, if the reason you bought it was to tell you how to fill out the forms. Get the forms from the ATF (I think you can print them from their website) and they are pretty much self explanatory.
