Smile iver johnson model 1900

hi
i have just inherited a small .22 pistol. at first i thought it was a big brother of a H&R young america. after some searching i have the following info

hammer action
solid frame
pull pin cylinder release
nickel finish
octagonal barrel
top strap has double action fitchburg mass usa model 1900 on it
serial no under trigger guard 10748
serial no under grip A10748
black plastic grip with owl face at top
7 shot .22 lr
flat hammer spring
can anyone tell me
1. the year of manufacture
2. how many were made that year
3. can it shoot modern .22lr ammo
4. was it made to shoot black powder rimfire
5. any other information anyone may know about this pistol
thanks evan

Gday Evan , welcome to the forum !

i'm no IJ expert but off the top of my head

Small frame 7 shot 22 rimfire caliber with prefix =D (1909-1917) and A (1918-1941/1942)

so by my reckoning its safe to fire using standard velocity .22 LR and being post 1918
NOT a black powder gun

as for date of manufacture i cant help but i reckon by morning our time you'll know that too from the real experts here

(i'll guess pre 1920 )

Nice to see more Aussies jumping onboard

cheers and again Welcome !!

added a pic , is this your critter ??

Small frame 22 with A prefix and serial number A10748, made in 1918. 2,500 made that year, a total of 237,700 made over the manufacturing lifetime.
