It would be great if the gene pool was getting cleaner but you loose one and gain 3 more.
That was cute, his head on fire. From the looks of the smoke I think his privates were toast. 6000 volts and alotta amps.

I've seen this before, and still believe it's a rare occurrence of Natural Selection occurring among humans. That doesn't happen often, friends.
Luck does count!

I think you are wrong, I think he had not a clue what that wire is. Electric trains usually run on voltages of 12kV to 25kV a.c. What happened is when he grabbed the wire an instantaneous overcurrent relay picked up and tripped the breaker. A second later an automatic recloser reclosed the breaker and re-engergized the line. A few cycles later the instantaneous overcurrent again tripped the breaker and the recloser locked out. The fault currents here would have been in the neighborhood of 2000 to 10000 amps. The victim was energized maybe six cycles per shot, 1/10 second, the fault probably consumed at least 25MW. That's a lot of power. I know an overhead lineman who lost both arms, he told me that it didn't even hurt until after both arms were amputated. I think at least he didn't suffer much.

Definite Darwin Award. I am actually surprised the dude made it this far in life, to be taken out by something so obvious.

Well, I don't think it's meant to be funny. Although natural selection at work is very hard to catch on film. It's actually pretty sad to think there are people that stupid.
He does qualify for a Top 10 of the decade Darwin Award.

I have to vote for accident.
Suicide would stop, face the wire, set his mind and then deliberately GRAB it - probably with both hands. This guy is walking along on top of the train, looking forward in the direction he is walking, and just casually reaches up with one hand and touches the wire as he is walking. I believe he had not a clue, just put his hand on it as one would a hand-rail.

There was an incident in our utility where an 18 year old "man" assembled several aluminum tent poles long enough to touch a distribution wire which is 14.4KV phase to ground. He wanted to see what would happen. What happened is he lost both arms and both legs. There was another incident where a suicidal drunk entered a substation and climbed the iron to reach the bus which was 138KV phase to ground. He grabbed the bus and fell against an insulator which kept him propped up. The relays were slow to trip the breakers and the fault lasted for 1.5 seconds. I saw the flash and heard the roar from 2 miles away. I was the first on the scene. I did not know that the burning heap on the ground was a man until his buddy told me. The arms and legs were gone. We found some bone fragments and bits of charred flesh. I calculated the fault power at 400 Megawatts. For comparison your toaster is 1 Kilowatt. The coroner's report listed the weight of the remains as 91 pounds though his drivers license said 260.

You know who else should be given a darwin award? Think about it, would you go outside and fly a kite in a storm with a piece of metal attached to it? Makes you think hugh?
