A new report disputes claims by commercial and recreational fishers that Australia's extensive marine park network will cost 36,000 jobs and more than $4 billion in lost revenue.
FOLLOWING the federal government's announcement earlier this month of 44 new marine parks covering more than a third of Australia's waters - the largest marine reserve network on the planet - the official report says just 103 jobs will be lost at a cost of $30 million to the industry.
The report, released last Friday, was compiled by the Marine Division of the federal Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities under the heading Completing the Commonwealth Marine Reserves Network - Regulatory Impact Statement.

This just from Me
Lee's Co-op employs directly 140 full time and up to 200 part time/ casual workers , based on the fleet of about 40 boat at Tin Can bay Queensland who employ about 170 folks

thats 510 jobs i can vouch for , just from my knowledge of 1 fishing town

Townsville QLD theres be hundreds from the charter boat sports fishing fleet that will go too

and the 5 long range processing boats based there will have to relocate maybe to asia , thats 200 jobs per boat

and maybe another 40 or so shore based jobs freezer plant and transport mainly

how do these greeny leftie low lives get away with rewriting facts like this ???

Anybody who disputes it will be proven to be a right-wing conservative nut case. That's another subject folks should put on the net, but it probably wouldn't stay there long.
