Default Are you prepared for home invasion?

What do you do to stop or defend against home invation?
In todays world we all need to be ready for anything at any time..
How do you protect your home? Yes I am paranoid. I like to think of myself as vigilant.

If any one forces their way into my home they are toast. I have a gun always at hand, we both carry 32 autos but we have two 12 guages ready to roll, the wife is to go for the remington auto and its the BPS for me, all loaded with and alternate of 00 buck and #9 shot. I also have a 41 mag in the kitchen on top of the cabinet along with a 40 cal high point.

I don't think anyone can ever be totally prepared for a home invasion. Too many variables to consider. Invaders seldom call or knock first and usually just break in when a person is either in the bathroom or asleep or gone. I keep a gun within arms reach at my chair and in bed, but there would be times when a person simply could not get to a firearm in time. Just be as prepared as you can be, that's all we can do.

There are many things that you can do. Always keep your doors locked is the first thing that comes to mind. Install alarms. Never be out of reach of at least a hand gun while in your home, or in your yard. Get a good watch dog. Install vidio survalance. Move to a better neighborhood. As I sit in my living room and type this, there is a .44spcl. withing inches of me, and a .44Mag lever gun with in 4'. My doors are locked, and both (only two outside doors) have alarms on them, as do my windows. And there are three large dogs looking at me wanting to go out! Am I paranoid? No! Just carefull, and I live in the country! Gotta go take care of dogs!

5. Our necks [are] under persecution: we labour, [and] have no rest.
16. The crown is fallen [from] our head: woe unto us, that we have sinned!
21. Turn thou us unto thee, O LORD, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old.

Better to be paranoid and reasonably safe than aloof and in danger, eh?

I know paranoia has saved my bacon a couple of times.

Good summary of how I feel. I have no idea how I will react or feel if it happens. I would like to think I will do my best to defend myself and family and try to be prepared for the worst.

I think you're right. Staying safe does not automatically equal paranoia, it is just the smart thing to do.

Of course here in Kalifornia one is supposed to run in the opposite direction of the break in. And only God can help you should you shoot someone thretening your family.

In Shreveport, LA, on 2-16-2010, one guy invaded three homes in one neighborhood, in the same day, demanding money. Ya just never know!http://www.ksla.com/Global/story.asp?S=11996081

Check into a Standard Poodle. Most people allergic to dogs are not bothered by them. They might look a bit funny, but they were originally bread for hunting and guard dogs.

I spent the night with a friend in Verdun, once. He awakened me at about 03:00 that morning and had me accompany him to the kitchen, There, his standard poodle was sitting in the middle of the floor, looking intently at the cabinet next to the 'fridge. In that cabinet, was a burglar, who stayed there, quite docile until the Gendarmes showed up.

My breeding stud, when I was raising and training hunting dogs was 90 lbs. Unusual, as they normally run in the 60 pound range.

Prevention

Locking everything,
3 Dachshunds,
Motion sensor alarms ($70 for 2 sets of sensor and receviers) daytime on chime mode, night time alarm mode. It is loud enough to hear outside the house, hopefully chases them off

Action,
planned defense: We have gone through many scenerios,
car break-in, front door kick-in, each window break-in
I grab the Mav 88 HD while wife (If I can wake her haha)
grabs her 9mm as a backup.
My .45 incase I have to retreat to "safe room".
Mega-candlepower light for "shock & Awwwwwwwww"
The shock on their face, and awwwww damn gota clean up the mess.

Planning scenerios is the best "What-if"

No, no one is.

But we better get prepared, because that activity is going to skyrocket here pretty soon, once the economy goes into complete meltdown.

Yes, I know, it CAN'T happen and I'm such a doom and gloomer.

Whatever.

Enjoy your train ride to the FEMA camp (which, yes, I know, don't exist either).

And we wonder why we're in such trouble.

Just pop another beer can and watch the game, sure, it'll all turn out fine.

Do you remember the scene, in the movie "Titanic" ?

One guy hands the Captain another ice warning and the Captain says "Woaaa, not to worry !"

LOL, yep. Of course though, that captain was willing to go down with the ship. Our current captain, and leaders, would NEVER allow themselves that.

Our current leader is still, after 13 months of ineptitude, blaming Bush and appointing commissions so he can then blame them in the future. He doesn't care one bit about the country only about power and control.

This thread has gotten me interested in a motion sensor alarm and once I get back home in the spring I may invest a little to install one.

How do you protect your home? Yes I am paranoid. I like to think of myself as vigilant.
I keep old ironsides in my drawer if there is crime or suspicious activity going on in my area. No FMJs while it's in my home. Always stick to JHPs. Have a Ka-Bar knife in there. Keep a cell phone at my bedside. Most likely if I thought my home was being invaded, I'd immediately dial 911 on my cell while I was getting my gun out of my drawer and I'd stay in my room. When the perp came into my room, I'd blast away. We have no castle doctrine here. It sucks. Basically in strictly legal terms you have to sit and take it. Even if you're in the right, you could go to jail because you didn't "need" to use a gun. They can try to prosecute you. Being a liberal controlled state, it would be best to just call 911 and stay in a safe area of your home with a weapon. Personally, I think if that egghead wasn't running our state, we'd have had concealed carry and castle doctrine laws currently on the books. Hopefully the Democrats will get voted out this November.

But common sense goes a long way. Keeping everything locked up makes a difference. I have a neighbor who calls the cops nearly every time there is suspicious activity in the neighborhood too, so if I hear or see anything, odds are that my neighbor does too.

It's not always a good idea to have a trigger finger - at least that's the way I feel. There are high schoolers that always TP and egg people all the time and I'd rather not shoot unless I think that the suspicious activity is threatening to my life or my family's lives. Half the time that's what the disturbances in my neighborhood are too is kids doing TP and eggings.

I'm NEVER going to any FEMA camp. Nobody's pulling me out of my home and sending me to a detention camp. The Nazis did it to the Jews and the result was 6 million deaths. I won't be handed the same fate. If I'm in such danger that FEMA says I need to leave my home, they can leave me to face my destiny. I'll write it on a piece of paper and sign and date it so they don't have to take any legal responsibility for leaving me behind.
