Default Browning Challenger DOB

I have looked on the Browning site and the date code seems to be backwards according to their description. This gun is #XX16U69. I was told it was a 1969 but not sure. From Browning site:
"In 1969 Browning started using two digits for the date of manufacture which was followed by letter code:
U=Challenger
This was then followed by the serial number beginning with 1000.
Example: 69U1000 = A 1969 Challenger .22 caliber pistol with serial number 1000."

Is Browning website wrong on order?
