The features depend on the model and price range. The kimbers can go from $900 and up and the Springfields can go from $500 up to $2600
I don't shoot accuracy matches usually when I shoot a match it it rapid firing defense matches and for what I use it for I like the Springfield GI 45 I like starting out with base models and then from their you can add all that extra stuff if you think you will need it. Just my .02

The Kimber Eclipse Custom is a good gun the night sights might make daytime shooting a headache, they are often time hard to see during the day. But the night sights would make shooting in low light and home defense much easyier. http://www.kimberamerica.com/pistols...ipsecustom.php
The Springfield has 13 different 1911 A1 loaded models was their a certain model it was http://www.springfield-armory.com/armory.php?model=8

I like both brands equally and have owned a Kimber and now own a
Springfield. In my experience, Springfield has been the better value with more features for less. I sold my Kimber to get the Springfield because it had the features I wanted at the best price. I will get another Kimber in the future when I can afford it though, as the one I had was a well made, reliable pistol and I like several of the models they offer.

Never touched a Kimber in my life but I will swear by my Springers. All of mine are great.

I'm partial to Kimbers. Mine has night sights. I dont have a problem seeing them at all daytime or night. Shoots much better than I do.

i have 2 upper end kimbers and 2 springfields, all shoot great and function great. go to your range and try to find someone with the models you are looking at and ask them to let you try them out. then pick the one suits you best. its cheaper that way or better yet buy both.

A big plus for the SA products is their lifetime warranty, regardless if you are the first owner or not. So buying a used Springfield makes some people quite happy. Also, SA customer service is excellent -- Kimber is good, IMO, from a smith's point of view...
