If I buy bulk powder in 8lb. cans what is the life of the powder in the cans. I would like to buy 8lbs instead of 1lb, but worry about using it fast. BTW, I did get my 9mm to work in my XD by sizing a little deeper. Even though the 9 loads faster than 223 I sure like seeing the results at long distance more. Thanks as always. Gene

Thanks alot Crpdeth. I think it would be a good idea to buy 8lb. cans just in case it gets harder to come by.

Gene Seward:
Most surplus ammo (the good stuff) is 30, 40 even 50 years old and is still excellent in performance. If kept dry and cool, powder shelf life is many decades. I buy all my powder in 8 lb jugs, if I can, mostly for the savings and the convenience of rarely running out during a reloading session. LDBennett |

JLA:
Try Midway, Cabelas, Grafs, or do a Google search for best price. I get mine wholesale through connections. Midway has fair prices and good service. I use them for lots of things and am happy with them. Grafs sometimes has better pricing. But be aware that you have to pay Hazardous item shipping charges so buy lots of powder to spread the shipping costs to a lot of powder. Sometimes I can find it at gun shows. I recently found out that Sportman Warehouse, who have a local store, also sell it in the 8 lb sizes over the counter and mail order too. Sometimes your local dealer has a powder source from which he can order the 8 lb quantity and he pays the Hazardous shipping cost (speads that cost over his entire large order). LDBennett |

Try here prices are great and he will ship primers and powder together under one hazmat fee up to 70 lbs.
