Default Question for the over 50 crowd.

I am a member of AARP. I joined a little over a year ago to take advantage of some very good auto insurance rates offered through this organization. I never paid much attention to their magazine and never knew much about their agenda. Now i'm having second thoughts. A few emails i received from them prior to the election and since give me the impression this group advocates the liberal agenda and supports/supported Obama. Would like to hear everyone elses take on this group.

I won't be joing them. They is their leaning to the left and at one time they were supporters of Handgun Control Inc. Either one gives me pause.

From NRA/ILA

National Organizations With Anti-Gun Policies

The following organizations have lent monetary, grassroots or some other type of direct support to anti-gun organizations. In many instances, these organizations lent their name in support of specific campaigns to pass anti-gun legislation such as the March 1995 HCI "Campaign to Protect Sane Gun Laws." Many of these organizations were listed as "Campaign Partners," for having pledged to fight any efforts to repeal the Brady Act and the Clinton "assault weapons" ban. All have officially endorsed anti-gun positions.

AARP = Very liberal agenda. Their person of the year a few years back, Harry Belafonte, caused me to cancel my membership and write them a letter voicing my displeasure.

They have called upon Congress for years to pass a law repealing the Second Amendment. They don't even know how the Constitution is legally amended.

I found their insurance rates to be higher than many.

I finally settled on Travelers Insurance for three autos and saved about $600. from AIG.

Suggest you look around for better rates via the internet.

And yeah .... AARP does stink.

If you are part of AARP you are just funding those who want to take away our rights.

Thank you all for your imput and information. I guess I'll have to find new insurance too. I had gone through three different insurance companies after buying a new car. I had extremely cheap insurance when I carried liability on a junker but when I switched to full coverage this company raised my rates to unbelievably high. So I tried a couple others, finally settling on the absolute lowest premium out there for the coverage I wanted. But then someone told me about insurance with the Hartford through AARP. I got a quote for the same coverage from them for almost $650.00 less a year than I was paying so went with them. I might call them to see if they'll continue to cover me if I quit AARP. Otherwise, I'm outa there.

I've got great news for anyone insured through the Hartford. I just got off the phone with them and they told me that if i wasn't happy with AARP by all means I could quit and it would not effect my insurance policy. They said you are only required to be a member of AARP when you originally enroll for coverage.

I have been a member for fifteen years, and ALWAYS upset with things they do.

I stay for the benefits, discounts, etc.

But you spurred me into contacting them and asking when they plan to take a members poll on issues, when they plan on having an election, etc., basically HOW can they say they speak for ME and yet never ask my opinion?

I will let you know what they say -

I joined twenty-three years ago and resigned twenty-two years ago as soon as their real agenda came out of hiding. One look at the publication [magazine] was enough.

A rundown of their so called special benefits that no elderly person should pass up proves that somewhere in the higher-ups there must be some kick backs. We compared carefully their health insurance and Rx offerings against basic Medicare/Gap coverages, several other offerings and found they are more expensive than most when comparing premiums AND benefits on an annual basis.

They are equally as left leaning as Obama and his crowd..... And this is not even considering that they support Handgun Control [Sarah Brady's outfit] financially as well as in all other ways.

Frankly I gag every time I see those letters - - - A A R P

Hey guys,
When I got my 1st membership application 15 years ago, I had already known of their stance with the 2nd Amendment & their support of the Brady Bill. I took their application & with very concise expletives, told them what they could do with their organization. I send the same message in their return envelope every time I get another in the mail. They apparently "no comprehendo"....... Denny

Hello RunningonMT...this is your old bud 1shot..aka..
"runningonfumes".. u heard it about right from above...

may be some items or reasons inside to stay a member and these few things may be right for you to stay..so you decide ,as Im sure you will. But all answers previous to my post are right on.

With that said...i'll also sound off on a close related thing so I wont have to post it if I think bout it later....

you said "over 50 crowd" so...

Its like this son ( respectful ) , always follow the money..
and wil lead you to agenda's , hidden and overt....

Yes this outfit NOT sqimish about how they lean.....and they collect their dues and go on their way , either tryin to collect more, more memebrs, or lobbying congress for aged if only to pony show or indeed help their members...but they are a business...they advertise and know people check...BUT the MEAT of their income...elderly..for the most part - dont do google or checking things and IF they have no younguns helping are pretty much at mercy of the literature or peer testimonials.......BUT..as the so called "boomer'crowd begin needing them more ...this bunch has more web savy people and if not that..the people coming in stall have "modern day moral savy " vs previous generations,
ie : "I suspect Everything and believe 12% of what I see ".... so they may get better at lot of things to survive or survive to top market projections they woul dmake....

That said....hoping ur AARP answerd OK..sentence or two about another "for profit business "...NRA...yes best port in storm and all the good things...btu I (opinion) am tired of donating only to see more spent on useless mailings when id rather have them do more or hire people to read letters from us or the like "all the way up capitol steps and all way back down every day.....for the funds...the funds and support gatherd by this organization from you and me "and then at appear to maintain business as usual covertness as if still in Reagan/Bush/Bush era"S........but I dont have to worry, cause "if I rescibe even sooner , I get the official
multi-tool free..."...sorry...maybe I am wrong on this...but I dont feel as if the organization is BEHIND me or SUPPORTING me right now.

AND if u say "oneshot..they are there.thats why no votes yet on these nightmare things floating around..."

then thats why maybe Im wrong...but if they are in the fight and coming to our aid with incoming..id feel better if I saw some ranging smoke......

regards,

I knew what their stand on firearms was, and that I could usually get better rates (on most of the things they offer) through other organizations. I never joined.

I have not looked in quite a while. Do they still send you "postage paid" return envelopes? They have to pay the postage on "whatever" your devious little mind wants to send them.

NOT that I would advocate doing this, of course.

I do this with all the credit card apps that I get. I run them through the shredder, and then I put the pieces parts in their thoughfully supplyed self-addressed envelope and off it goes.
Gee, I hope they recycle.
