What brand of equipment should I use? - The Firearms Forum

I have a friend that recommended one to me, but it's been a while. It was either RCBS or Lee, I believe. What do yall think is the best and easy enough for a beginner. Also, what would I expect to pay for the set up with everything to do my .44 mag.

Country, if you go back in this thread one or two pages, this was all discussed within the last month or two and also several times before that. There are pleanty of threads in here that will help. Have a look around and let us know if there is something you cannot find.

Both RCBS and Lee make fine equipment. Lee, in particular makes an inexpensive starter kit that contains just about everything you need for about $100.

for my birthday i am getting

lee anniversay reloading kit w/ maunal
rcbs case lub kit
various ammo boxes
case length gauge
lee pacesetter dies for my 30-30
all of this was right around 126 shipped from http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/ i have not used it yet since my parents will not give it to me until my birthday but it should be a nice starter kit

I'd fore go the RCBS case lube kit and pick up a can of Hornady One Shot case lube. A whole world of difference in lubing cases. Faster and easier. Just a suggestion.

And not as messy either! I hated lubing cases on that RCBS pad.

I have the RCBS Rock Chucker starter set, with just a few carefully chosen extras from various manufacturers. It was a nice starting place at reduced cost, but the lube pad had to go. I agree wholeheartedly about the can of One-Shot spray from Hornady being the answer.

I also like the Hornady lock-n-load system for changing dies.

Also the titanium dies and the carbide expander can help in making the job easier reducing the amount of lube.

Thanks yall. Any suggestions on types of powder or bullets? I'm gonna get the lyman's handbook, so that should give me some ideas, but what are yalls favorites for a .44 mag?

Xracer, I saw the lee starter kit yesterday and that's why I posted here. I'll check out that other thread.

Hornady 240 gr XTP bullet under a healthy dose of WW296.

Nosler 260 gr for Hog huntin.

250 gr Keith type cast bullet for popin cans.
